Softmodded Xbox Hdd Change.
« on: February 23, 2011, 08:11:00 AM »

I bought a soft modded xbox from a friend (done with AID 4.0) and I would like to switch the 60GB HDD that he installed to a 160GB HDD that I have.  He gave me the DVD he made to do the soft mod and the mem card to use to exploit splinter cell.  I just have no idea where to go from here being that the box is already soft modded and I am not starting from scratch as I have done before.  Any help would be appreciated.  I am hoping that since it is already soft modded, it will be an easier/quicker process.

Just reading through the XboxHDM tutorial and noticed there is a clone disk feature.  Can I just use this to clone my 60GB hard disk to my 160GB and then just swap them?

Sorry for the new post, couldnt find an edit option to update my first post....

first thing i would do in this case is backup the eeprom to your computer. im sure it is already on the disc you have, but there is something to be said about having a copy on the computer for easy transfer. and i may come in handy depending on how you go about doing this.

now i have never used the clone option on XBOXHDM. so i am not going to advise you on that. if you wish to persue that line, then someone else will have to give you thier guidence.

there are a few things to consider when using XBOXHDM 1.9. it requires that you have an older computer in which the HDD and DVD drive are both IDE and pluged into the primary and secondary IDE slots on your motherboard.
if you do not have this kind of older hardware, you can use XBOXHDM 2.2(USB edition). it is made to boot from USB and has fewer steps.

XBOXHDM 2.2 tutorial

make sure you add your eeprom.bin in step 6 of building the USB

when you get to the hotswap section, you can ignore the part about forcing an error 12. you would simply want to plug your new HDD into your xbox power supply and boot it up.then plug the IDE into your computer after post as is suggested in step 2.
when it is finished building the new drive, you will need to go back to the locking menu. redo steps 3,4,5, and this time at step 6 you would choose option 3 to lock the drive. then plug your box back together and you have a new modded 160GB HDD.

Decided to just prep the new hard drive and install it with AID and then copy my stuff from the other HDD.  Problem is, after i make the HDD with xboxhdm and lock it... I get an error 21 when i put it in the xbox.  From what I've read this is caused by a broken C:\ back up.  Can anyone help me with this?

where did you get the C that you used? AID should have a fresh clean copy of it. since you have the eeprom, you should be able to fix this. what version of xboxHDM are you using?
one other thing i noticed about this version of the kingroach mod is that when you push the eject button you sometimes get an error 21. but if you push the power button, it boots as it should. worth checking out

I used a back up of the C:\ from my modded hard drive.  I wonder if I should have used the M$ dash back-up.

i do belive that is your problem. that is the shadow C, and you cannot just move it over to another HDD. your best bet is to redo the whole thing. what version of XBOXHDM are you using?

I'm using v1.9

So I should replace the C:\ backup from my soft mod with the M$ back up and give that a try?

I really cant hurt anything as I am keeping my modded drive as a backup smile.gif

her is the thing, you have to treat this as if it is a new HDD. you wont be able to bring anything over from the other HDD unless you figure out the cloneing option, but ive never used that. if he gave you the disk he made to do the original 60GB HDD upgrade, that disk should also work for the new 160GB hdd. you need to get to the point where it asks you to make a new HDD from scratch. do that, and when its done, enter XBROWSER and run NDURE. then choose the option to replace C with Ndure.
