DEFAULTXBE=\Device\CDrom0\default.xbe
DASH1=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\evoxdash.xbe
DASH2=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition6\avalaunch.xbe
DASH3=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\nexgen.xbe

right now it looks like yours boots from here
1ST D:/default.xbe
2nd C:/evoxdash.xbe
3rd  F:/avalaunch.xbe
4th  C:/nexgen.xbe

So is a dash is to boot you would have to have it in one of those location for the bios to pick it up and boot it.

ohh so Partition6 if F.. i see.. I just started to play with the bio config app.. on the 'boot settings' looks like i can change the scheme of that.. and from the read me, its saying that the 'path' doesnt matter.. just as long as the partition ? so if i change the Drive of my dash boards i want to use as apps. just move them to F/Apps/evox/ , F/Apps/MXM/ ect..? they will work..? OR i could also just change the cfg to Partition5 ..? is that E.

well i have tried that.. i used the cfg app to E-F drives like this

DEFAULTXBE=\Device\CDrom0\default.xbe
DASH1=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\evoxdash.xbe
DASH2=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\default.xbe
DASH3=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition6\default.xbe

but the dashboards will still not boot... u know what im trying to do right.. just use them as an application.. so im putting them in the apps folder.. they are detected, but will not load. now the unleashX will load if i go threw the soft mod.. like 'run linux' threw mech assault.. and evox will work but only as a dash on my C drive.. i have them all names default.xbe.. i put them as follows..
E/apps/xxx/default.xbe
F/apps/xxx/default.xbe

I also just tried point directly to the .xbe files like this..
DEFAULTXBE=\Device\CDrom0\default.xbe
DASH1=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\evoxdash.xbe
DASH2=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\apps\MXM dash\default.xbe
DASH3=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition6\apps\evox\default.xbe
DASH4=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition6\apps\unleashx\default.xbe

it doesnt work... what am i doing wrong.. i dont understand that the issue is.. =/

OR maybe it was after i put in the 'bios.cfg'' into the C drive, to tweak the start up

The file has to be called ind-bios.cfg

"Your" dashboard is the program your console boots when you turn it on. The console can only run one program at a time, so if it manages to find DASH1, then it won't continue to look for DASH2 etc - it'll only do that if it specifically fails to find one of the earlier ones on the list (meaning that if you accidentally delete your console's dash, it can have "fallback" dashboards to use instead).

All of this has absolutely nothing to do with your ability to boot programs which are intended for use as dashoards, as apps.

Are you putting all the files required by each dash in their respective folders? For example, UnleashX requires not just its XBE, but also a "config.xml" and some language based files in the same folder.

Try reinstalling a fresh copy of each dash into the apps folder and see if that helps. The dashes may have got corrupted when you backed them up

ok i will give that a shot.. i was looking for the data folders for MXM, and the others.. but i couldnt locate them... guess i will do like i did last time.. maybe rename the UDATA, and hope they will work.. however actually the unleash X and ANODX are freash copies from the AID, which were only put on after i flashed it.. i moved all dashboards to F before i reformatted E drive anyways, then just moved them back.. its very odd.. but thx for the suggestion.. hell i will try anything

have gone over the thread  blink.gif
what dash are you booting into at the minute? Ava? I boot in XBMC
I know that Evox works as an app...its how i flashed and i have SoftMod deluxe 5 in Udata folder 21585554 - IIRC does that not use UnleashX as a front end - anyway tjat works too (I find the file manager on that excellent btw)
once I am up & running I may try a few dashboards in E:\ to see what works with my iND-BiOS.5003.67

hey thx for the feedback smile.gif well just to be clear of the purpose of this thread:
I wanted to get a new HDD and NOT need a PC to format to my xbox.. since i dont have a PC.. so that is when the tops was mentioned.. I had also had the problems in my current HDD not allowing me to write, or copy anything into the root of UDATA, couldnt create new folders, or change the name at all..

  THAT is the main issue.. the new HDD, is just something I plan to do later down the road, when things calm down for me..right now i dont have the time to go hunting down the adapter,and hdd.. since im in a foreign country its not the easiest thing to do for me at this moment.. so my immediate issue was trying to get new games, and apps to work, that i havent been able to use for over 2 yrs.. I have been traveling for many years, and only have a notebook.. no use for a PC to backup my xbox's HDD, and create a new one from scratch.. I knew that maybe reformatting E would fix the problem, but as i said many times, i just feared if it didnt fix the problem, maybe the whole hdd needed to be remade.. I didnt want to completely wipe E and risk the issue with Udata not being resolved.. that would mean NO game or Apps would work since i wouldnt be able to create data folders for them.. i didnt even know if the Xbox would boot back up.. (i know enough to softmod, and troubleshoot some things on xbox's,but i dont really know or understand HOW things work, the way they do, with softmods etc.) which i learned I was just being too paranoid, and have since fixed the UDATA issues =)
many many thx for everyone who has been so patient with me, and my noobness.. haha I have been out of the xbox modding scene for many years.. only a few acceptations of softmodding some friends boxes with memory card exploit i was using..

 i had the krayzie soft mod 1st.. then flashed the tsop.. after i flashed it, everything was still working fine.. however i had been having problems with my Edrive, in the UDATA folder as stated... I had always been usin Avalaunch with the softmod.. but I like the look, and options of Game2dash, which until i flashed the tsop, i could only use that as an app.. because it needs to be in root of Cdrive.. (thats what I read from where i downloaded it anyways)
 So after i flashed, I put Game2dash as the C root dash (i had just totally wiped my Cdrive, to get rid of the softmod) so everything WAS still working.. all dashboards worked as applications up until now.. So after using each (dash as an app, to get FTP access) i would try to rename the UDATA folder, to see if i could get any access from a different dash.. after trying ava, xbmc, unleash, mxm, anodX, and game2dash.. evox was only one left to try.. and magically for whatever reason it worked blink.gif  so i renamed it to 'aaa' i think, and TDATA too.. i rebooted, and tried a game that never worked since i deleted the folder. (modded version of GTA SA=) and to my shock, it booted it ! I removed the game, and checked the Edrive, and there were new data folders.. so I moved all the dash-apps to F, and I used AID to wipe E, and FTP'd a backup from my notebook.. popped the dashes back in apps folders, and put all data back into the data folders..

 At this point i assumed all the dashes still worked as they did before.. i didnt try any of them at this moment.. so i went on to look into the cfg tool for my bios, and read the read me, and changed some colors around, but left all boot options alone, as i dont really know or understand how all that stuff worked.. (now im being forced to figure it out, but sure its not a bad thing, just wish i was learning on my own.. not because i am trying to figure out wtf if going wrong, however i still dont full understand too much og hardmods, and bios') so anyway, i only modded the flubber thing.. and all seemed fine.. i can still rewrite udata and play things that were not working before..

HOWEVER i DID notice, that configmagic, Xpartitioner v1.0-1.1 and box explorer will NOT work either..  ohmy.gif  in addition to the other dashboards Im using as apps.. dvd2xbox still works, my xdsl mugen/win 98 still works.. Game2Dash still works as an app, and so does avalaunch

IF I use mechassault, or navigate to UDATA where the softmod for krayzie hack is, I CAN boot unleashX.. AS OF NOW I have EVOX as the dash of C drive.. (there is no MS dash) BUT I can NOT get evox, unleash, mxm, or anodX to boot as a app. I have tried to add them to a 'dashboards' folder, and in apps on drives E,F,& G.. I CAN boot the "newhdEVOX" version of EVOX, which i have on my HDD in a backup folder in G drive of various apps, and things.. so for whatever reason they will not work the normal way. seems only the 'special' cfgs for softmodding, and hdd building works for those.. also seems they will work fine if they are installed in C, but i still want to use others at times as applications..
 I also tried putting the other dashboards, and apps into various parts of the xbox example: 'G/xbox/backups/NewhdevoX' works.. i i put other dashes, and apps in multiple subfolders, and they still just freeze when trying to boot them.. so it has to be something in the config of those dashboards that is allowing them to boot, but not the more 'basic' dashes..

 Im almost tempted to go one by one, threw all the configs for evox, and unleashX, and just add some strings from the 'basic' versions to the 'technical' ones.. not sure if it would even be worth the time.. and i still cant get MXM to work, nor anodX.. NOT even to mention such important apps as xpartitioner, and configmagic.. i mean WTF...
 right now Im putting all these apps into the backup folder on G drive.. I will freaking ease E drive yet again.... and one at a time put the apps back.. see wtf happens..

I have tried reflashing the current ind-5003.67, and tried X2.4981.67 bios.. nothing helped.. I am wondering what is the BIOS to flash, if U want to put RETAIL BIOS back on?? my xbox is 1.0 currently flashed with the ind-5003.67..
I might just start completely over.. and use the softmod, that had been working with everything.. and then slowly redo it allllllll over again..  unsure.gif

well i admire your patience in all of this.
so if i read right - your E:\XBOX was having problems writing to E:\ before & after the TSOP (soft mod prior to flash).

OK to give you an idea on how my XBOX is set up presently but this may not help you.

Its a 1218mb XBOX with a hardmod chip in now. I screwed up the TSOP with my iND-BiOS.5003.67.bfm flash **don't use that BIOS**
I flashed the modchip with the iND-BiOS.5003.67 (so I can allow access to F & G)
I set up my HDD a long time ago with AID 4.50
The 512gb HDD is split in C:\ E:\ F:\ G:\
C:\ contains the XBOX retail dashboard (soft-modded i think too as I am too lazy to replace it) with ind-bios.cfg on the root.
I used AID 4.50 to make XBMC my default dash and thats on E:\
F:\ & G:\ currently empty as I set time aside to get my files on there.

I have never your problem before but I have only been around a short while  wink.gif

This may be conflicting advice but now that you have a TSOP'd drive - why not back everything up to your notebook via FTP & get a hold of Slayers Evox and rebuild the HDD - You will need to softmod afterwards to get FTP access. Then set your dash using AID?? what do others think? **btw you got the eeproom safe somewhere else?**

As for the M$ Dash, I have never flashed to that one before but from my BIOS collection I see M$ 5838.bin (256k) could be considered.

The recommended MS BIOS version depends on the Xbox version:

1.0 = 4034
1.1 = 4817
1.2-1.5 = 5101
1.6 = 5838

I doubt that reflashing the stock BIOS then resoftmodding would solve the problem - the issue is with the disk, not the mod, so reverting back to a softmod won't cure the problem.

I suspect that your suggestion is the right one, and the problem here is that the disk needs to be reformatted from scratch. As the Xbox is now TSOP flashed I'd unlock the disk, drop it in a PC and run a surface scan, then reformat as NTFS and run chkdsk, then put it back in the Xbox and start from scratch. However, as the OP doesn't have a PC that won't work - although an external IDE enclosure should do the job because we don't need to relock the disk.

However, if it has to be done on the Xbox then I'd use HeXEN rather than Slayers or AID, but that's probably bias on my part smile.gif

well just to add to what i had already discovered, i got evox working by replacing the xbe with the one that does work in the newhdevox.. these were all working before, so i find a bit odd, but if thats what i need to do, tomorrow i will try and look for other alternate xbe files for the rest of the 'wild bunch' who decided to stop working on me... lol

thanks for the info Heimdall - useful to know. I missed the fact that not everyone's v1.0 TSOP chip has been swapped out & replaced with a 256k one (as in my case). lol

@joeblow420

I personally would format the XBOX HDD - but for you not a viable option due to your lack of HDD space - time to get that 2TB HDD then  wink.gif

And for the record HeXEN is an excellent choice. Its been a while since i booted it (just never got round to using it).
