You will need solder, yes. Nothing fancy. We're just bridging a couple of points in order to allow a flashing operation that'll take like a minute.

Dunno about the disc. I'm inclined to think the console just can't read it. Try some different types of media. DVD-R seems to work best for most people.

hmm update, so the bios i was talking about has the right name... but only 256k... that was all from the slayers disc bios.. LUCKILY i have more bios i have gotten from somewhere, and they are all in diff folders by 'sizes' i seen in the 256 folder the same bios, and also in the 1mb folder file with the same name.. ''x2.4981.06''
thx goodness, i was wondering wtf.. so just to be sure, NOW... the 1.0 xbox needs the 1MB bios as the link says..?
still not sure wtf is up with this dvd not reading.. does it require the TSOP first before it will boot a disc like this one.. these H-L dvd drives are monsters, always ready the most difficult dvd's.. but i cant get cdr's to do a damn thing.. so thats why i just took the 400 slayers dics, and added a bunch of things to fatten it up to 3.5 gigs.. so i know the problem lies in the disc i made, just not sure why unsure.gif

Yes, it apparently needs to be flashed with 1mb of data, though I'm not aware of a flashing tool that won't sort that out for you. Flashing a 256kb BIOS, for example, will typically result in that BIOS being duplicated four times.

Your softmod should be able to at least boot Slayers, though of course you shouldn't use any of it's features until you've got a hardmod in place.

ok.. i have burned again in a few different way.. still just a black screen, never had an issue b4 burning anything.. i read some comments on the place that is still hosting the slayers 2.7 final.. seems many others are also having trouble.. is there some other 'boot dics' i can use besides this one.. or a more stable version.. all i could find on xbins was torrent files, nothing else for slayers... i did grab the 'newhdevox' will that suffice for my needs to format a new hdd on my xbox.. i mean build a new hdd from scratch via xbox without needing a PC.. thx

There's no such thing as a less stable or more stable version of a boot disc as far as booting is concerned. It's the media, or your burner, or your DVD drive - use DVD-R, burn at 4x or slower using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0. If that doesn't work then it's your Xbox DVD drive that's at fault.

You're better off sticking with Slayers, AID or HeXEn, because you'll get more support than you will for the boot disc you found.

OK i have just soldered the points on my mobo, but im very nervous to flash the thing.. haha i just worry about how will it boot up.. it will still boot to my softmod, i wont need to rename any default.xbe or anything..?

also the dvd boot disc update.. i got AID 4.52 to download finally, and it booted.. but the slayers still just black screen, and same with the newhdevox disc i made..
i think AID might be overkill for me, i just want something simple.. but i also would like to have a variety of diff boot discs for any situation that might come up..

Your softmod will be non-functional after the flash, but you won't "need" it any more so that's ok. Whether or not the new BIOS can find your dashboard is a different matter; odds are it won't (most modded BIOSes want to boot from c:\evoxdash.xbe), but you can use AID to install a new one to the root of your C partition once the flash is done.

also since i got some issues with my E drive, not allowing me top write to udata/tdata after i install the dash to C, i will save everything in my E.. i saw some options that AID will reformat my E drive for me.. so if i just save all, and reformat i can just send all my junk back E, and should 'in theory' allow me to get write enabled to my data folders..? uhh.gif

im sorry, but again i just remembered another question.. what about if i choose to reformat E, my eeprom will be deleted right, and all my tdata/udata folders.. wont that screw up some things on the system...? or on the reformat it will put the data folders back, and it will still boot up to the new C drive,. and from there i can just FTP the rest back into E..im just worried about reformatting E.. since i have no experience with hard mods work, i just know i was totally dependent on E drive.. one more thing, what about the 'shadow c' from the soft mod i do plan on if possible just sending back all data currently in the E drive, so i have the eject fix, and other perks.. right? i do need to have the softmod for those things like in game reset, correct?

hey thx for the reply, so if i use AID to flash 1st.. (then reboot directly, or install the new C dash with evox.xbe?)  then 'reformat' my E drive, and put back the data folders...
i am just worried if i reformat, E and delete the data folders, will my xbox still be able to boot up without the data folders in E..? i mean doesnt evox need the data folders in some way..?
since i have issues being able to write anything to the data folders.. i really paranoid about deleting them.. because them i wont be able to run anything on the xbox.. no programs ,games or emus will work if the data folders are removed.. i can not play or use anything that doesnt already have an existing data folder.. =/

once you flash the xbox and have backed up the E drive you can actually format the entire drive then install a dash and restore your E drive. If the dash needs the udata of tdata folder it will put them there as long as the drive is formated.

hey stevo, thx again for replying about this! when u say format the entire drive u mean the hdd.. because i have 320 gig, and no way to back up everything.. thats why im only interested in formatting E drive alone.. i have no problems with anything other then can not play or use any apps/games that have not already been used once and have data folders.. i have tried to add new folders, or create new folders in the data folders, and nothing will work.. however i can go into an already existing data folder, and write, copy, or create items inside them.. so at the moment i cant back up everything on F or G.. was just hoping to only reformat E drive and hope it fixes the problem.. its just happened one day, when i went to use an app or play a game i have never used before, and noticed it just kept looping back to the dash.. and same thing no matter where i try to load the app from.. uhh.gif

oh yeah you can just format the E. just make sure you use the right bios when you flash the tsop so that you do not lose everything. If you have a F drive and no G drive use a bios that ends in .06 if you have a F and G drive use a bios that ends in .67. then just format C and E and then install the dash to C and put your backed up files back on E
