Questions For 1.6 V Motherboard.
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:59:00 AM »

Not sure what you mean by "flash this 1.6 v box the Ndure softmod way". If you mean mod it with a ndure softmod yes you can do that but if you mean flash a mod-chip or on board chip using a softmod in the 1.6 no you can not do that.

It is easier to install the bigger hdd after you have installed a softmod because you need a eeprom backup to lock the hard drive to make it work in a softmodded xbox. A softmodded xbox is still basically a stock xbox so all the hardware has to be set up the way the xbox bios wants it to be.

In my opinion it is better to mod a 1.4 because you can flash the TSOP on a 1.0-1.5 xbox but not on a 1.6. Flashing the TSOP is basically like installing a chip in the xbox. You are actually replacing the stock bios in the xbox with a hacked one so you are then able to overlook some of the requirements the stock bios wants, like you would not have to worry about locking the hdd, you can completely remove the MS dash, you could even boot with no dvd-drive in the xbox(some bioses). To me a 1.4 if you have that version available is the better version to think of installing a bigger hdd in. You could soft mod it, then flash the TSOP, then use a autoinstaller disk to install the bigger hdd.

Hope that helps

Sorry mate, I didn't make things clear! Heres A pictures of the chip: IPB Image and the following text Is details of the chip and what It Is(Obvously you know but Just for getting use on the same page):
QUOTE
If your chip looks like this then you have a Version 1.6/1.6b.You must use the UXE exploit which is a software solution that offers most of the benefits that a TSOP flash does including installing a larger hard-drive.

Then If you go onto:This page and scroll down to

So as I'm reading through the tutorial that I'm following on how to softmod the box, It goes of Into more detail on other pages, and It said before I mod the  'Ndure softmod way' (corrected) I will need to upgrade my harddrive first otherwise I want be able to do so after I mod, go to:This page If I'm still not not making any sense and hopefully that should clear it up for you. Note to users who may decide to try upgrading the X-Box Hard-drive after a Ndure softmod!
and there you go.

So It looks like what I'm really asking Is can I upgrade the harddrive on A unmoddified xbox and If I do mod the 'Ndure softmod way' do I have to upgrade the harddrive before.I know It's all black and white on the tutorial I'm following but I'm asking for things to be 100% clear.

And thanks for your opinion on what box would be better to mod It's lead me to debate with myself about my opinion all so

Thanks,

You can't easily upgrade the disk before you've softmodded - you have to do it afterwards.

You don't "flash the Xbox the Ndure softmod way", you install an NDURE based softmod. Flashing is something completely different, that you simply can't do on a 1.6 Xbox.

This is just plain wrong. There are a few ways to upgrade the disk on a softmod with shadow C. Install Krayzie's NDURE 1.1.1 softmod first (takes about 5 minutes once you have the gamesave on the Xbox), then post back and one of us will talk you through the best option, depending on what equipment you have available.

I'd also go for the 1.4 out of your two options - as Steveo says it can be flashed if you ever want to, and it also supports VGA output, and has more functional temperature monitoring. Having said that, if you already have the 1.6 just go ahead and softmod it - I have a few softmodded 1.6 Xboxes, and they work really well.

please watch what sites you post links to. I removed your links because the site linked contains links to illegal files and/or copyrighted material.

IF you put the 1.6 motherboard in the 1.4 case you damaged the motherboard. There is a stand off near the case fan on the 1.4 case that will damage the 1.6 motherboard.

what did you actually do to the 1.4? Does it boot at all maybe to an error screen or something? Maybe it can be fixed.

No error screen, no boot to on screen, turn It on blink to orange, blink to green and turns of. How did this happen? I tryed to expose some more of the solder points, because when i was flashing I was getting A 0X09 error that means check solder points right, well they seamed OK through A magnefine glass, so I decided to expose some more of the point with A fibre brush this actually made It worse, then I tryed A stanly blade and Thought I had It then soldered the points, then I tryed to turn the box on.

Not the end of the world man.

just repair the traces by bridging the bad spots with wire. if they werent to bad maybe just use solder. It really depends on how bad it was.

you take the 64MB off the broken xbox and add it to a working xbox and get the 128MB of ram. When you do the ram upgrade you dont replace your chips you just add to the extra ram to the mother board.
