What i want to ask is do i only need the eeprom info to lock the drives ? (which i dont plan to do).

You may also want to have a backup on hand in case the originals ever corrupt (which is very rare, but usually occurs simply because the IC in concern decides to randomly mess things up).

Losing your EEPROM data may mean losing access to some of your save games.

Also is it safe to use configmagic to unlock the drives

So long as you have a way to relock them. Note that a softmodded system won't boot without a drive locked specifically for use with that system installed. If you unlock the drive of a softmodded box, you'll need that EEPROM backup to relock it (the alternative would be hardmodding via a modchip).

and i read that it not only unlocks drives but resets the master password could somebody explain what this means to me, as i thought that if its unlocked there would no longer be a password anyway.

I assume by "reset" it means "remove".

One final question, one of the xboxs has an xecuter 2.6, will this boot to the new hdd without the X2configlive.ini file or do i somehow need to put this back on first?

I guess you're talking about "x2config.ini" - the only BIOSes I know of that use this file consider it optional. Depending on where you've got your dashboard stored, you may need this file so that the BIOS can find that. Note that you haven't mentioned what BIOS is in your modchip, so from my point of view it's conjecture as to whether the file is of any use to you at all.

Ok heres what xbmc tells me , MODCHIP "Unknown / TSOP" (what does this mean, i was told it had a xecuter 2.6 solderless chip)

It means what it says - XBMC can't tell what sort of modchip is in there (though really it shouldn't be suggesting that the TSOP might be flashed, as 1.6 consoles don't have TSOPs).

BIOS "Xecuter2 5035 v1.6+"  (this xbox is also a 1.6 version)

After further inspection i dont even have a x2config.ini file, although i thought id seen one, so should i have one and any tips on how to find it.

It usually lives on the root of the E partition, though it can also be read from the root of F. If it's not in either location then your BIOS isn't using it (as mentioned, you don't have to have the file at all - it merely serves to allow you to alter the BIOS's default settings).

If you really want a copy, grab the zipped BIOS from X-Bins. This'll also come with the documentation for it.

I can tell you the BIOS will, by default, expect the dashboard to be launched via one of these files:

c:\avalaunch.xbe
c:\evoxdash.xbe
c:\unleashx.xbe
c:\xbmc.xbe
c:\xboxdash.xbe

So if that doesn't match where you've got it on your non-chipped system, then you'll either need to move the dash to suit, or add a customised INI file.

What is the IC ?

http://en.wikipedia....egrated_circuit

I was referring to the one that holds the EEPROM data.

You should be able to name it as anything on that list. The BIOS will look for each of them in sequence, then boot whichever one it happens to find first.
