Xbox 360 Motherboard Picture?
« Reply #90 on: July 26, 2005, 02:05:00 PM »

im not sure about the whole downloading / streaming thing...
and ill argue wiht myself here...
people like to own things if MS sold us a box and siad thats it now we send you stuff online and you play it like its yours, after soo long of having people buy games many people will be like
A. haha, no seriously where can i purchace a game...no fuck you wheres my game!?
or
B. i have no hi speed connection, so im screwed!?

you could compare it to TV...but then people didnt go out and purchace TV shows before tv the listened to radio...

so ok
lets compare games to somthing people once bought and now dont
hoorkers...wait no

music and movies
more and more
people want al of their media digital
they want to download or rent their media entertainment to own digitaly.

but even then some people still want that hard copy

so where is the balance
live content
ms will sell us the base game experiance and if we want more download it
that way people get their hard copy and are happy and ms gets our loot and their happy

bottom line i doubt the game market will ever see streaming media or downloading media as the comon place cause people like to own stuff...and mod stuff and make stuff their own.

Not only that. People love having movies and music digitally sent to their computer via downloads, but why?

BECAUSE IT'S FREE.

If you gotta pay for something, you want it in hard copy.
this is why you see people saying 'If I have to buy the downloads, I might as well just buy the cd' which is absolutely true. Same with movies. If you had to pay 20 bucks to download a movie, you might as well go and buy the dvd.

well first and foremost it's not a replacement for actually buying games.

and you wouldn't be buying on a game by game basis either.

lets compare it to music.

Napster* offers unlimited downloads for $15 a month (or something like that). You can listen to whatever you want, whenever you want, but as soon as you cancel your subscription you can't listen to any of it.

Now I can go buy a CD for $15 but I can only listen to that CD... and I don't have to worry about paying any fees to KEEP listening to that CD.

with the Xbox game on demand service I would pay say $30 a month and play whatever I wanted whenever I wanted but as soon as I stopped paying my monthly fee I could no longer play anything.

Similarly I could pay $50 for a single game DVD, I own the disc but then I can only play that game, but I also don't have to worry about paying any fees to keep playing that game (unless it's an evil MMORPG).

see what I'm getting at?  beerchug.gif

*Note: I don't have the Napster service and really have no idea how it works, so don't bother arguing about the details if I got them wrong.

No he didn't. We all just got off topic, I fogot what name this discussion was under.

Anyways, if the streaming games deal was a service, like Xbox Live Platinum or something, then yes, streaming games would be a pretty neat idea. I thought you meant you'd have to pay 50 bucks to stream this game from the servers. Like, I'd pay 50 bucks to be able to stream GhostRecon3 from the servers.
But the service makes more sense.

Whoa this thread changed topic so subtly I barely noticed!

Personally I don't like the idea of streaming games, mostly because of download speed and also the fact they will most likely use the loading time to shove adverts in our faces mad.gif

Plus the streamed version of the game might very well be made into a lower quality, like streaming videos online (although I understand streamed games would be cached on a level basis most likely), but I don't think streamed games will escape the stigma of streamed videos, which really do my head in, just give us a download link ffs!

Ok, so you won't mind if I get back to the topic.

Looks to me a custom made dev platform for FPGAs stuff. The style recalls Xlinx products, I mean those blu LEDs. In fact PowerPC libraries are available for almost all their silicons. I don't recall such 3 PP cores at 3.2 Ghz, both puppies under the fans could be customs too...a real mess to hack...

alright... to the person that mentioned the 128 meg flash chip... VERY HIGHLY LIKELY. since not all 360's will have a hard drive, they cannot put the dash on there!

Screw actually modding it for the time being.... I just hope I can whack the end off of one of my old xbox controllers and hook it up instead of that 360 controller... I reallllllllyyyy can't handle the s-types! wink.gif
