Only 4 players per console, but unlike the PS3 it can have more than 7 wireless controllers in a room.
You can have as many xbox 360s in a room all with four wireless controllers.

Just have a lan match if you want more that 4 players.

ok man.. i have the PES 2012. i wanna play this game with 4 friends.so it's me and other 4 guys, so 5 controllers... the game supports these 5 controllers but does the xbox 360 support them???? we wanna play at the same time.... please answer...... smile.gif

or is that only the maximum number of wireless controllers the 360 will support?  can we plug a 5th, or 6th wired controller into a usb port?  i'd love to be able to field a whole hockey or basketball team with my friends and then compete against other teams online.  how sweet would that be?  just wondering if it will be possible...but the thing that scares me is the ring of light only has 4 sections on it.  so it might not be.

Why do you think you cant have more then 7 ps3 controllers in one room? The 7 thing is the limit for the number of bluetooth devices it can actively be connected to. With more ps3s and more controllers you just pair them to that console.

afaik, the only restricting factor is the hardware itself.  so, in theory, unless the usb ports somehow cripple the wireless board when a controller is plugged into them, the limit would be 7 players.  I think it'll be a cold day in hell, though, when there's 7 people playing simultaneously on one console.

that's too bad then if it is limited to 4 players.  it sucks when you need to have one player switch between two guys, or have the cpu be one of your teammates...as the cpu controlled teammates usually do stupid things.  i guess i'll have to wait for the ps3 for 5 player action.

Why would you (or MS) want to put more than 4 player to a console? The only games that would somewhat benefit are sports games.  Almost every other game requires split screen and it's bad enough to play with a screen split into 4.  It would be a waste of time and money to impliment more than that.

Just because you can have 7 controllers plugged in does NOT mean you can have 7 players in the game, remember it is all what the developers want, I believe most of the PS3's games will have the standard 4 player  multiplayer. Why would you want to split a screen  5 ways? that would be horrible (especially on wide-screen) anyways I'm happy with 4.

Wow.. must every game be a FPS, racing, or sports game? No wonder MS keeps churning out the same game over and over again. Of course it'd suck to split a screen 5 or 6 ways, but lots of games can be played with several players without split screen. Oh wait... thats right, the xbox has very few of those games compared to the other two consoles.

The ability to play with 6 friends + yourself all on a single game without having to switch controllers between each other is a great idea. Adds a lot more fun to party games and most likely means there will be a lot more games that will be simple fun games that are also targetted towards women (for those of us that have girlfriends, who don't play halo).

Sort of like fuzion frenzy, and super monkey ball. Simple easy games that women can play and provides simplistic fun for a group. Now if you just want to sit there and play FPS all day, might as well just play it on the computer.

The PS3 wireless controllers would suck for my room because there is a maximum of 7 bluetooth enabled devices per room (Max 30 ft. I think), I already have 4 devices in my room (Laptop, PDA,  Headset, wireless Xbox controller), this would leave me with a max of 3 PS3 wireless controllers!

i really don't think the 7 Bluetooth is to be used for 7 pads. maybe you can hook up bluetooth headsets and such accessories.

@ TB2ZI
Not sure, but does the bluetooth signal/device cross connect? i mean, doesn't it register it-self to a device to be used only for that device?!?

With xbox 360, you will be able to have no more then 16 wireless controllers in the same room. The reason being is that there are only 16 channels, and if you had more then one controller on the same channel, they would interfier with each other.

It's the same with the Gamecube's Wavebirds, 16 channels.

x360 has wireless usb 2.0 which is a new technology developed by MS, it supports up to 255 devices or channels, so you could really support a massive lan party in a single room, you could have 64 xbox360's lan party connected with 4 people on each box and no interference from everyone else...
