Unbuntu 7.04 Upgrade Question
« on: April 21, 2007, 05:38:00 AM »

Hi

I'm currently running Unbuntu 6.10 on my 360.  I was wondering if I used the automatic update option in Unbuntu to upgrade to the latest version if this would break any of the custom 360 patches to the kernal etc.

Finally if I do upgrade to 7.04 can I use the same boot CD, or do I need to use the new one from http://www.free60.org/wiki/Ubuntu7.04 ?

Thanks

You can download the loader from http://mydedibox.hom...loader-sda2.iso

I followed the guide at http://mydedibox.hom...hp?categoryid=3 to install Ubuntu 6.04.  There is also a guide on that site to install 7.04, however this will be a completely new install.

I just want to update my existing install myself to version 7.04.  I don't want to risk using the auto update though in case it breaks something.

Hopefully someone knows if the auto update will work correctly.

Well just for the record the auto update worked.

The only issues I found was that the clock wasn't correct (unless with Ubuntu 6.10), but I fixed that by enabling NTP.

The network connection doesn't seem to auto connect on boot, although connecting is only a matter of a couple of mouse clicks.

The following commands will fix your network settings at boot time.

CODE

sudo  echo "AVAHI_DAEMON_START=0" > /etc/default/avahi-daemon
sudo apt-get remove network-manager-gnome network-manager -y

In theory, yes, but the usb-driver is a bit too buggy for that atm. I dont know what the problem is but people have reported random crashes with usb-disks.

1. You can install with this instruction on your Ipod http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=595543 but the usb driver is buggy so I dont recommend it.

2. There is no Ubuntu livecd for the box. But you can use the Gentoo livecd if you want: http://www.free60.org/wiki/LiveCD

Would anyone know how close we are to having a working sound driver on the 360?

Also for those with Linux installed on a 2.5" Sata, will there soon be a way to load Linux with only the patched King Kong game instead of the current disc swapping method?

Thanks
