Mplayer should work fine using framebuffer. Why not build a XBMC 360 using directFB, (so we don't need the Xserver using up memory) QT embedded and Mplayer on a linux kernel. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_MPlayer_on_Framebuffer

Mythtv is doing it why not make a XBMC the same way?

Mame can work on framebuffer (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

just use Geexbox. it is fb based, works on PPC, very small (6MB), uses mplayer (plays almost everything), network support, even DVB USB support.

Mplayer supports subtitles! biggrin.gif

But, if we could get mplayer working now, as soon as we get an audio driver... BAM! Working media player.

mplayer works (read the gentoo livecd xenon thread)

what we now need is somebody who is willing to 'port' xbmc to linux.

Or atleast rewrite geexbox or something like that...

Remember XBMC is more then just 'playing' movies. It's also a emulator starter, info searcher for the movies, you can download the icons for the movies etc etc

i'm more wondering about the hardware like the remote control if that is going to work anytime soon
