What does the default.ide(i think) file does?

I don't remember exactly, but I think it has to do with the custom wheels?
not totally sure on that one.

QUOTE
and, whats up with the custom soundtrack.... it sounds like.... slow..... different tone.....

like I said before, it'll run a little slow.  If your playing a custom soundtrack it just means the xbox HDD has gotta load the game, custom car, and music.

QUOTE
and, can I add you to my msn messenger list?

you could but I'm never on that.  Most of the time I'm on yahoo.  If not, then PM me on XS.

the game copys data to the disk cache even when run from the DVD.  It must read the map data and the m$ dash soundtracks at the same time.  This is why its slow.  The in game radio stations go with the map data on the cache I believe.

could be both but like I said before I'm not really sure.

that wouldn't effect it.

Think of it this way.

on the E drive

you have file A=100mb
file B=100mb

now on a different section of the HDD on the X,Y, or Z drive
you have the GTA data in game

the HDD can't read everything at once so it slows down to read back and forth.
The reason it reads better with the in game radio stations is they go on to the X, Y, or Z drives with the game data.

I could be the music.  Did you rip a Cd that wasn't scratched?
I could also be the performance of the HDD
Also are you using a stock HDD?
If new was it brand new or used from a computer?
