Callerid Question
« on: June 08, 2005, 09:01:00 AM »

I just signed up for AT&T VoIP.  Will the callerID script work with this or is this script solely for analog phone calls?

Thanks

Do you think it would be okay to run a line from my TA (phone adapter) to my computer modem?  Think that will work?

I recently got the AT&T service myself. Caller ID does work. You can even program your own name for specific #'s. For example, if you have a friend with a nick-name, say Slapster, you can have your caller ID read "Slapster." You can even get your voice mail on the web no matter where you are.

Does it work without hooking the phoneline from the TA up to my modem?  Thank you.

how could it?  you have to have some way to get the callerID data.  your devices don't just magically understand every VoIP implementation and automatically pick out hte CID data.

That makes sense...I just wanted to make sure I didn't screw anything up.  I connected my TA to my computer's modem, ran callerid (says "running" on the screen), and called myself.  It still doesn't pop up anything on the screen though.

Also, where would I program people's names?  I didn't see any kind of config file with the .py.
