Torrents In Media Center
« on: April 14, 2005, 01:43:00 AM »

Now I know that media center is an open source project and I could just make this myself except for the fact that I know absolutly nothing about coding an xbox app except for building and editing xml's  . So this is more of a hypothetical what if .

How hard would it be to intergrate a bit torrent client into XBMC ? . I just think that it would be amazing to be able to click and download tv torrents inside of media center . Ever since the integration of kai into media center , I have been really impressed with the general functionality of xbmc as a dashboard . And I think that this kind of feature would really make it the end all app for xbox ( well it allready is ) .

And with so many bittorrent clients out their for so many paltforms their has to be a nice and lean one that would be easier to intergrate into a prgram like this  . So to all you XBMC developers out there is it possble ???

besides developing a UI for it and getting a torrent client running on an xbox what other hurdles are there ?

All I can think of right now is file size having to be less than 2 gigs , zipped and rared files , and filenames being too long .

Cool thanx man . I tried a search and it came up with a mysql error like 3 times in a row .

Does that script only handle one torrent at a time or can I enter the url of a tracker and browse torrents?

Personally I dont use it.. Not much on torrents these days. Also try searching the python scripting forum instead of this one if u havnt already.. Try google too, I've seen several other torrent scripts out there just dont remember where.

you need to make a folder where the torrent can be downloaded i think by default it is E:\torrents.

It downlaods the torrents not the files . Which is cool but not as cool as I thought it was when I posted earlier .

You could always get a bittorrent client like azureus running in GentooX.  It's too bad that XBMC can't download the actual files, that would just be AMAZING!!!

You can set it up so that if you leave ABC running on your desktop, with web interface enabled, you can have your Xbox queue it over to your desktop automaticlly.

Now if only I can get the damn thing to work.

yeah, but that would be the only sense it would make. why would you have .torrent files on your xbox? useless? i might the the idee behind downloading the .torrent files on the xbox in front the tv and then handing them over to ABC, but on the other hand, its much easier and more convienient to do all this on the pc. hm, same as replying to an old thread, but sorry, i was on the hunt for a bittorrent solution for the xbox just today and found this...

Since the official BitTorrent client is open-source and written in python, it seems like it'd be pretty easy to port. But I really don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to this, so meh.
