Please Help, Xbox Remote Questions
« on: April 03, 2005, 09:50:00 PM »

Sorry, i AM double posting this, but i jsut realized this may eb a more apropriate forum for it.. so here goes..

Hey, thanks for any help in advance.
I have xmbc 1.1.0
Sorry in advance if these questions have been answered elsewhere,
i'd just prever to have the answers consolidated to a single page. thanks.

Hey, theres a few things im curious about concerning xbox media center and remotes.
Ive recently purchased the MS xbox dvd remote kit for my xbmc because i was tired of haveing to use a controller to navigate. Problem is, i have so many files it takes a long time to navigate through them with the remote.
When navigateing XBMC with a controller, i can scan through items fast with the LEFT and RIGHT triggers on the back of the controller, and it makes the xbmc 2x more enjoyable(like the ipod with the scroling click wheel). Also when useing the xbox dvd remote control, there is no way to adjust the volume within xbmc like there is when useing a controller(toggeling the right control stick up and down).

So, basicaly, my first question is the following.

....Is there a way to get xbmc to let you ADJUST THE VOLUME useing the remote, and to also let SCROLL FAST THROUGH FILES LIKE WITH THE LEFT AND RIGHT TRIGGERS WHEN USEING A GAME CONTROLLER?
Like say, to use the numbers 2 and 5 on the remote for volume control, and the numbers 1 and 4 on the remote for fast scrolling?

My friend told me it had somethign to do with scripting, but hes not well versed in it(and neither am i), so any information and help on this topic and this question, and any information on how to accomplish what im trying to do would be GREATLY apreciated.

Now to my second question(more of a curiosity, not realy as important as the first one, but would still be very useful if possible).

Is there a way to control xbmc via a universal remote? If so how, again, any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks in advance for ANY help.

Godbless...

Just use the RCA code (0522) on your Universal Remote and you're all set.

If you want to get VERY specific, then you can enable the IR debug mode by editing your xboxmediacenter.xml file and setting IR debug mode to 'TRUE' and then you will see the remote code for every key press.  Write those numbers down and then edit the keymap.xml file and you'll be amazed at all the things your remote can now do with XBMC.

I use the OneForAll URC 8811w and I use a JP1 serial cable to program the remote myself.  This is an advanced technique and is not recommended for everyone.
