Problem With Ac3 Avi File
« on: March 05, 2005, 06:27:00 PM »

I'm trying to watch a movie which has 6 channel AC3 audio, at least thats what codec finders tell me.  However, when I try to play the movie all I hear is cracking and popping.

I'm currently using a Madcatz Advanced AV pack, with Fiber Audio cable, and composite video.  I have the Xbox dash set to Dolby Suround Sound, Dolby Support set to yes, and DTS set to no.  In XBMC (Febuary 4th build) I have Audio Output to Digital, and AC3 Capable receiver set to yes.

If I set AC3 Capable to false in XBMC the sound plays fine, but it only plays it with 2 channels.

Also I know 5.1 works since I can play games like republic commandos and it uses full 5.1 sound.

What could be causing this?

It seems like I'm not the only person to be having this problem.  I searched the XBMC forum and some one else is having it.

Has anyone else been able to successfully play AVI files with Xvid and 6 channel AC3 audio?

i had a similar problem, but it was with a 3 channel ac3 xvid file. the only way around i found was to set the audio to analog, but i don't think it is the same problem as yours, as i was using the crappy speakers on my tv.
