Few things...

Kaleidascrape requires that you queue a movie first, put some vids into the F:\\Clips directory and then execute the script.

In addition, I've changed the script around so that you can have any amount of different types of clips as well as Trivia (available from
this thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/printthread...ge=1&pp=30) like $4 total.
My script is at:
http://www.pinblog.com/kalidiscrapecmh.py

Sometime soon I'd like to get Quicktimebrowser to grab trailers automagically, but it is proving more daunting that I thought, and well, I don't have enough time.

Wow, this is the first time I've seen any mention of Kaleidascrape on the forums aside from my numerous pleas for help trying to fix the script.  Are you the guy who made the original script?  Cause I emailed him a few months ago suggesting that thing with the quicktime trailers, and if not, well then, I guess great minds think alike haha.

By the way, I haven't gotten a chance yet to try out this updated version, but with those trivia/cola slide things...well i'm guessing it basically just does a slideshow?  I just ordered the disk from the forum, but it sounded to me like it's just a bunch of jpegs, not an actual video, correct?  So, I was thinking, it might be cool to add the option to play music from a specified folder while showing the trivia slides instead of having complete silence.  Just a thought.

Now that I've looked a little closer at the coding, it looks like you already have something set up for the music like i was talking about.  Sweat deal.

I put a bunch of music in the music directory and pictures in the trivia directory to try it out and it seems stuck in the trivia thing.  Is there a specified time it does this for?  I've sat through a couple songs and it just keeps going.

So, I've decided I'm retarded and I need to be a lot more patient before I make stupid posts.  Anyway, this post actually has some relevence though.  I've noticed when going through the videos, it seems to frequently repeat itself and do the same video a couple times.  Just so you know.

Ok, when you say you put it in E/Apps/XBMC/scripts/__MACOSX/ folder, what do you mean by that?  I don't think you even need the macosx folder, i'm not quite sure waht its for, but either way, it should be something like this E:\apps\xbmc\scripts\kaleidascrape\kaleidascrape.py the maco osx folder is in the same folder as the script itself.  Also, for the keymap you would have to show this exact route, assuming this is where it is located.  So, that would be <X>XBMC.RunScript(Q:\scripts\kaleidascrape\kaleidascrape.py)</X> .  Also, for the video clips and stuff, open up the scrip itself with notepad and if you read through it, it basically tells you everything you need and how everything works, but I believe the only folder you NEED to have something in is F:\clips, and if i'm not mistaken you have more than one, otherwise it doesn't like randomly choosing from one file...I could be wrong about that, but it seems like i ran into that a while back.  If you don't have an F drive, or you'd rather change which drive it goes on anyway, open up the script with notepad like I said and toward the top you will see a bunch spots that say things like F:\\clips F:\\thx and so on.  Just change the path of F:\\clips match wherever you put the folder with the clips in it.  I probably just said all this in the most complicated and retarded way possible, but hopefully that helps.  I have it running great now, thanks to the creator for making this.  I was running through withdrawls after the script broke a couple of months ago.

OH one suggestion to the creator, if you read this...It would be nice to add in the ability to skip the intro triva clips thing.  It's the perfect thing to have going at the start to draw people into the room and get situated, make some popcorn and so on, but when everybody's ready, it'd be nice to just be able to end the triva and start the videos.  I don't know if that would be easy to code in, but it would be a nice feature for sure.

ok, heres what i did.

downloaded the script

edited keymap.xml so it has the <X>XBMC.RunScript(Q:\scripts\kaleidascrape\kaleidascrape.py)</X>  in the MyVideos section

i put my videos in E/Video/Clips (and i edited the script to all the media is being looked for in my E drive instead of my F, so all my clips are there)

i put the script in   /E/Apps/XBMC/scripts/kaleidascrape/kaleidascrape.py

and when i go to XBMC, i go run the script, and i press the X button almost EVERYWHERE, and it dosent start up.

what am i doing wrong here???

do i have to rename this: <X>XBMC.RunScript(Q:\scripts\kaleidascrape\kaleidascrape.py)</X> to this?: <X>XBMC.RunScript(E:\Apps\XBMC\scripts\kaleidascrape\kaleidascrape.py)</X> ????

no, don't rename that.  That should be fine.  The "Q drive' is actually just the xbmc folder root.  It's something they wrote into xbmc so that you wouldn't have to manually edit things to account for where each individual user might keep xbmc, be it in the f drive or the e drive or wherever.

There's a couple thigns that could be wrong.  First, did you edit the thing to point to E:\\videos\\clips? or did you just change the F to an E (which would mean it just points to E:\\clips, therefore, its not finding your videos)  Second, are you queuing up a video before you start the script?  I'm not certain on this, but i think it just doesn't do anything at all if you don't have the video queued up first.  Also, make sure you have a few files in the clips folder, at least three to be safe.  I know i've had problems in the past where if I only had one or two videos in that folder, it wouldn't run....Also, I've been having an issue with a couple of my dts and thx videos just refusing to play with the Kaleidascrape script (works fine normally on the xbox) unless I rename them (no idea why, doesn't make any sense, but whatever).  So, you might want to 9 or ten videos on there just to be safe, a few different formats and so on...but it shouldn't really be necessary to have too many.  If you only want one specific video to play, you can always just take one file and make a few copies of it and put them all in that folder. Also, if you want to be sure that the keymap isn't the problem, just queue up the file...won't hurt to check the now showing screen to make sure it is infact queued up...and then actually go to the scripts window and launch it manually rather than using the x button.  I personally don't really like the X button idea because it means I can't go between full screen and minimized video.  I use the MC360 skin pretty much exclusively now, and I added a button to the video section that says "Theatrical Intro" and i just select that instead.  If you're interested I could post a topic with that mod, but I'd say wait till you get it working before spending time modding the skin and stuff

Edit: About having to place the keymap mod in any specific spot...as long as its in the video section i don't think it matters.  But, you might have to delete the keymap for x that's already in that section.

You can hit the white button when a video is highlighted and selecte "add to queue" or you can press the "Y" button.  To see if it's in the playlist and go to the now showing screen, hit the black button while in the myvideos section.
