Ipod Sync Script - Request
« on: November 15, 2005, 04:21:00 AM »

Ok...so picture this:

Using a USB to Xbox Controller Port converter (i.e. how one would connect a Keyboard) connecting up your iPod to XBMC and have XBMC either automatically sync up your iPod to a directory contained with MP3's.

I've read up on ways to set-up an iPod to allow you to simply 'drag-and-drop' audio files with-in folders directly into an iPod through File Explorer on XP and having the iPod find those files, bypassing the need for iTunes.

So, lets say someone would have an iPod set up in this fashion, and they keep and rip all their music to their Xbox. It would be great to be able to either have a script automaticly dectect the iPod, or simply just run a script, that would automaticly sync up a folder on the Xbox to a folder on your iPod.

To me, it sounds possible....am I wrong here?!

I'm pretty dang sure that you can't do it... it's not as easy as "just making a script"
pretty much anything that hooks up to the controller port (or any port for that matter) needs a specific driver that lets the Xbox know what the crap it is and what it's supposed and what it's aloud to do

however... since the Ipod is very similar to a Jump drive and I think that I saw that Action-Replay kit use a lil' 512Mb jump drive as a pretend Memory card to transfer files to the Xbox
it might be possible to make the xbox think that the Ipod is a Mem card...
but... Memory cards are formatted into FATX... and I'm absolutely sure you don't want you're Ipod reformatted into FATX

ya... for the time being, I'd say it's impossible

again, I say... Not really likely

you can keep on dreaming about a day when all peripherals can be used with an Xbox.. but that doesn't mean it will happen

The Xbox 360 however... the whole idea behind the software is freakin' insanely awesome:D and I have high hopes that when it gets cracked/hacked/modded... It will not be long till people find out just how powerful the system setup is

very exciting...

so yea, It's more likely to happen on an Xbox360

and what on earth would you want a file server to run from your Ipod??? that sounds potentially problematic..
[edit] quite obviously problematic*

I meant instead of an ipod my file server on my network. like when i connect xbox to network it looks for z: and checks what i have on there then downloads what i havent from it.
