Freestyle Dash 2.0 Background Tutorial

Background Tutorial

this is for anyone who want to add there own custom backgrounds (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

1. On your 360 HDD or USB open the Freestyle dash 2.0 file

2. then open the skins file , there you will see a file named Default.xzp delete this file <-- WARNING ( this will   delete your previous " skin " settings.

3. open up "FSD2 Alpha SRC.zip" go into the skin file and extract the Default file , open up the file go into

--->Images
           --->Backgrounds
                                    --->Wallpapers

place the images you want into this file. make sure they are 1080p i have tested with other images and they don't fill up the whole scene. a good website for 1080p is

http://www.ewallpapers.eu/search_size/1920x1080-HDTV-1080i

4.once you have done this go back to the root of the Default file and open up the file called XML in there is a XML file named " BkgListA.xml " open this file.

5.
CODE

        Images\Backgrounds\Wallpapers\bkg_wallpaper.png
        Images\Backgrounds\Wallpapers\Previews\preview1.png

this is what you will see repeated simply edit the  " Background name  " and the end of the " Filepath " if you want you can also edit the " Previewpath " but i haven't bothered with this as i don't care about it.

P.S -  Jpg files will work

once all this is done simple transfer it to your xbox 360, to the same place that you deleted the Default.xzp file.

hope this was helpful (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ENJOY

Hey guys, glad you're digging into the technical stuff of the dash.

Few tips / tricks:

1)  You dont have to be in XZP format to use the skin, you can use Xuipkg /U default.xzp and extract the files as a folder- just rename the skin folder and the name tag in skin.xml for it to show up in the skin list... with it set up this way, you can make changes without having to modify or rebuild an xzp (and you can keep the default skin in tact)

2)  You can add as many backgrounds as you want- you don't have to rename existing backgorunds, you can just add more to inside the taglist (same thing with stages)

3)  Same stuff applies to tab colors, icons, etc, you can add as many as you want, whole different themes- when we wrote this customizing stuff, we were anxious to see what everyone comes up with.  Heck, if it's badass enough, I can add it to the release, who knows...

Hope this helps you guys with your customizations....

Thank you for the hints MaesterRowen I have a question though since we are using xuipkg. Once we edit our theme to liking and give it a name and all can we use "xuipkg /O newthemename.xzp /R *.*" and keep our new theme in xzp format? Then copy the xzp file to a folder with our theme name, to me its just cleaner this way.

After you compress it back to XZP you can put it in the skins\\ folder with its own name like... mytheme.xzp if you want, it can be in a sub folder though unless its extracted...

Yes that's the correct place DJ KooPee

I've been playing with this and it's amazing all the features you guys added to skinning options here is a sample of what I have played with so far nothing major yet and I love the fact you can package it back up into .xzp that's one of my favorite features as cheesy as that sounds lol.

You need xuipkg.exe which is included with the xui authoring tool package then use this command without the "
"xuipkg /U nameoftheme.xzp"
