Feature Requests For Fsd 2.0+
« on: July 14, 2010, 09:04:00 AM »

First, let me preface this by saying that I can't wait for FSD 2.0. This thread isn't intended to insult their work, but rather, for people not involved in the project to throw ideas around for future features. This is in no way meant to rush the release of the Alpha and it isn't a place to bitch about the lack of release, etc.

That having been said, here's a few features I think would be cool:

1) Chatpad support, similar to how the Kindle or Android operating system works: You'd start typing on the chatpad from the main menu, and it would start finding results based on what is typed. It would be searching all categories (XBLA, Full Games, maybe even music and videos). It should have a setting page where the actual fields to be search could be selected.

2) Instant Messenger Support - would also be capable of using the chatpad.

3) Integration of a screen shot or even video capture feature for games. I don't think this is possible through FSD, but rather would be a firmware hack, but integrating the use of that easily into FSD for preview videos, etc.

4) ebook, CBR/CBZ reader - reading comics on my TV would be cool

5) Weather - I'm sure this has already been planned by TeamFSD, but I just haven't noticed anything about it.

6) Integrated XLink Kai or something to that effects (I know this is a LONG way off most likely, if we ever see it)

Okay, enough ideas for now, I'll post more if this thread picks up.

Anyway, thanks from all of us to TeamFSD, I haven't been this excited about the scene in years...since the original XBOX. Good job guys, and good luck.

Thank you for this thread.

1) - Youtube integration (mp4 is possible i think)
2) - Add NFS and CIFS client support, to use shares to watch movies
3) - Add .srt support to mediaplayer (i believe this is easier then add new codec and container support, this would be great and huge step in mediaplayer)

4) - Gather more good coders in your team so they could work in mediaplayer, while u guys work on the rest of stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

5) - Don't stop coding freestyle dashboard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Good ideas, but you can accomplish all that you are wanting using TVersity. I've mentioned this to you before. Have you tried it out? It will even stream Youtube videos to your Xbox 360, and can handle subtitles. The only limitation is that MKVs don't work so well on the Xbox 360 using TVersity (depending on how powerful your computer is).

However, to address these issues, you can use either PlayOn or the PS3 Media Server (which now supports the Xbox 360 and streams MKVs VERY efficiently!).

Hope that helps you some with what you'd like to be able to o with your Xbox 360.

yes i understand that, but i hate streaming...we lose quality and i would prefer all natively in freestyle dashboard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i tried tversity a few months ago...not my thing.i don't like encodes and/or streaming.

but thank you very much.

I don't feel that I am losing any quality, even on the HD stuff. Streaming is an extra step, I know, but it's really easy. Also, with PlayOn, you can stream Netflix as well, something I doubt FSD could EVER be capable of natively.

You should revisit the servers, as I think it would be MORE of a hassle to copy all of my media to the Xbox 360 before I could watch it. FTP to USB is slow, and disconnecting my USB drive from the 360 every time I had a new video would be a big hassle. Streaming is worry free.

Just try those programs again...they're WELL worth it.

i like streaming! but i hate transcoding...transcode loses quality all the time.

i would use stream if freestyle dashboard supported all codecs. that way would be ok.

without that you have to user tversity or so to make conversions on the fly, and stream, like they do.

nevermind. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have TVersity set to "only transcode when needed," and it rarely ever does.

Because it is much easier to just play movies from my computer. Streaming is used for convenience...as I stated earlier, it is a lot of work to be constantly transferring files to a HDD then moving it to the Xbox...and I don't like waiting for FTP. TRUST ME, streaming is WAY easier and more convenient. Plus, multiple devices can use the same content (i.e. cell phones, tablets, laptops, media center PCs, etc.).

Anyway, lets get back to FSD, I could care less if you don't want to stream. I'm just saying that solutions that are more than adequate, including subtitles, are already available and can be used in conjunction with FSD 2.0.

ok, last offtopic!

streaming and transcoding is different!

i like to stream media, not transcoding it on the fly.

if freestyle had mkv support u only would need your computer with the files.
without tversity using computer power and encoding it at the same time.

it would only use wired/wireless connection to send the data nothing more, that would be good. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

back on topic.

Want .mkv playback support or for that matter just about any format there is buy a wdtv live and all your movie problems will be solved. No streaming (unless you want to) and no hassles and best of all no more seeing people asking for .mkv support smile.gif

why buy it if we have the horsepower in x360 to do it 10 times? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Release the source to other devs that have more free time and that can contribute with more frecuent releases.

Not to disrespect your work, but I find it irritating reading dev's post in saying: "we have lives that only give us 10 minutes to code a week...."
I mean, I have a life too, a kid, work, school and such, but when I decide to do something for fun and for the challenge, I put my time into it, not spare change!

I'm sure there are other devs that have at least 10 min a day that will contribute with more ease.

I've actually wondered how streaming a game would be like.....kinda like the old GameCube days with the first Phantasy Star server hack. I'd like to see that TRIED, no matter how it turns out, merely to see the same hack done on a nnew gen console XD
