Rick360 v1.0
Posted by XanTium | June 23 18:27 EST | News Category: Xbox360

MagicSeb released Rick360, an SDL port/compile of xrick (which is an open-source clone of Rick Dangerous) for homebrew 360s:
Quote

I changed almost nothing to the original code (just added "game:\\" in the file xrick.c and activated the joystick).
The game is playable, but a bit slow when there are many sprites on screen.

Official Site: n/a, by MagicSeb (xrick, Rick Dangerous)
Download: n/a (built with XDK)

Nice.

Now if we can just get somebody to port Doom then we will be doing great. Good job dude. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Whats wrong with the XBLA port of Doom I & II? My only gripe is that it only supports 4:3. I want it to scale to full screen on my 16:9 LCD.

I didnt realize they had Doom 2 on XBLA. But yea that 4:3 is annoying. Some ppl say that stretching degrades the quality but it looks better imho.

stretching screws up the ratio and makes everything look like its un-proportionate ie a circle become a oval. how is that better? better to have native 16:9 support

Its just a matter of personal opinion. I prefer to have some distortion and use up the whole screen. That doesnt mean its the best way to play the game, but thats the way i prefer to play it.

Doom I & II running in 1080p at 60fps with proper widescreen and high resolution textures and of course multiplayer.
Now that would be sweet.

and i prefer to use the original doom wads i own and dont want to buy or steal another version that is far inferior than a good port of a advanced opensource doom version with TC support and so on.

just tried the port...
it works quite well but no dpad support and no seperated jump button makes this (atleast for me) not verry playable.

PS: the xbox1 port runs better on the 360, for anyone else who want to play this i have to recommend the xbox1 version till now

Never heard of this "Rick Dangerous" game before. The entire reception section on wiki seems to be British magazines, many of them for computers that were never popular in America, so I guess that explains it, even though the article does say it was released in America.

Not that being obscure in America means it shouldn't be ported, just it had me going  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif) there for a minute.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
