Teaser of Love364's New GPU Code

LoveMHz posted new W.I.P. details of Love364 (a Nintendo64 emulator for homebrew 360s) on  his blog:

First off, I'm sorry that the video didn't show up on this blog post at first. I fail at posting from my phone. Secondly, sorry for the lack of blog posts, but I haven't had the time between a crazy life and working on Love364 as much as possible.

The video below is of Super Mario 64 running with full vertex buffering and HLSL shaders. Now this may look like a step backwards from my previous posts before but it's actually a huge step forward for the project. The main goal of Love364 was not only to write a working N64 emulator for the 360, but also to expend the possibilities of the N64 hardware on the 360. There's so much that DirectX 9 and 10 offer in terms of graphics, post effects, and overall awesomeness. Something that wasn't possible 5-10 years ago when N64 emulation started. This also offers me a great operatunity to expand my knowledge of the 360 and DirectX.

There's plenty left to do. So it's back to work for me.

This is certainly great news to hear. It's been a bit slow hearing news about homebrew on the 360 and this is one of the more highly anticipated projects (this and Freestyle Dash). This makes me think a few things with regards to the possibilities. Firstly (and leastly), this may be the first N64 emulator to get Pokemon Snap working correctly. Secondly, I'm suddenly reminded of some drivers for older Nvidia cards, allowing certain cheats that we haven't seen since the major controversy over them (wireframe modes, transparency modes, etc. allowing you to see through walls). Thirdly, and most importantly, this sounds like it could support the make it pretty mods for the Zelda games (high texture mods), and any future mods that require so much more hardware than we usually have our hands on. Obviously HD, but then true widescreen modes, with proper POV. Better quality shaders, added bloom, and I'm getting the feeling that I'm thinking too narrow with this as well..

I await this with baited breath.

Though I wonder, if this could allow controller mods, or connectors that would connect the original N64 controllers to the 360. I've got a couple controllers recently refurbished (the joystick replaced) that would love to see some 360 action.

pretty cool now lets see some bump mapping biggrin.gif

or even better, Mario 64 running in an emulator, but instead of the mario texture, use the framebuffer from another "emulator" to create a custom texture to paint on him biggrin.gif.

Not sure if this will allow it, but that could be implemented with PSOC (micro-controller). Just need a little know how with C and you could easily right the code to preform the functions. I wrote the code to support a keyboard on a PS3 a year ago (only "fun" project that I could get my teacher to approve). This wasn't a senior project, but still it wasn't difficult and didn't take much time at all. It would be very possible to use the a micro-controller to map the buttons of the N64 controller to correspond and output to cabling that connects to a 360 or PS3 for that matter. Trust me, there isn't any delay with the correct code.

So any update on this?

or another Nintendo 64 emulator for the Xbox 360?

I distinctly recall someone saying something about a good working Nintendo 64 emulator for Xbox 360..

There are no updates. LoveMHZ left the scene due to personal problems, but has stated he will be returning.

If and when that occurs, we may see a release. Also, he purportedly gave the source to a few other people in the scene, so it's possible that they are revising the code behind closed doors.
