Xbe Or/and Freebot?
« on: May 20, 2010, 11:02:00 AM »

Hi i have latest version of XBR in my JTAG console.
Can someone (noobish words) explain what's the difference?
And should i change from XBR to freeboot?

what can i do with freeboot that i can't do with XBR?

thank you very much.

the latest freeboot is based on the latest officiall dash (9199) so you can use the usb memory card feature and maybe play some games that wont work on 8XXX, but i doubt there are any (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
also freeboot 0.032 allows a special memory hack thay may allow advanced homebrew in the future...

so we can have xbox live...for about 1...2 hours till we get banned too? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i use a 500 2.5 hdd soldered to motherboard so i don't need usb stuff i think.

lets wait for freestyle 2.0 if its only compatible with freeboot i will update then.

thank you

live is and will never be possible....

In one of the blogs the fsd member talked about a guide with FSD to return to and said that this will only be possible with freeboot. But its not out yet so we have to see what rebooter is released with fsd 2.0 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Yes better wait till you need Freeboot. Freeboot works great on Falcon Boards (if you have on you can update, everything works like XBR3) but it has a bug on Jasper Boards (the hacked Xbox Emulator doesnt work with Freeboot on Jasper Boards). Freeboot 0.32 seems not as perfect as XBR3 was. If you don`t want Xbox1 then you can also update the Japser Consoles. The Rest is working. Hope they soon bring 0.33 that fixes some of the Bugs cause with XBR3 everything worked great on a Japser Xbox360 console.

I've been meaning to ask this for a while now.

Currently on xenon  XBR3.....and haven't yet flashed to get region free though want it doing but holding off for a newer better version of XBR.

If no new xbr does come out......and it comes to putting freeboot on.

1.  Is Freeboot region free?
2.  Is it possible to flash it by using the flash360 app (the one that runs on the xbr'd 360 itself - haven't seen/tried it yet) or does it have to be flashed to freeboot by the lpt/usb cable?

If it can be run by flashing with the flasher on the 360 itself then may give it a go...as desperate to have region free enabled but seems pointless to do it with XBR when may be another version around the corner

What? Xbox 1 emu works just fine on jasper consoles, freeboot fixed alot of bugs xbr had, not the other way round

A lot of people, like me, didn't understand the difference between freeBOOT and XBR. Here it is in a nutshell.

freeBOOT originally required you to have dual nands using the Cygnos chip. This was inconvenient and so XBR was made as a single nand solution that simply overwrites the one on the mobo. Now, with the new releases, freeBOOT has also become single nand.

XBR broke off from the main freeBOOT path in order to provide a single nand solution. Now, freeBOOT is everything XBR is + more. XBR did its job, but is now at a dead end. There won't be an XBR4 because it's pointless - if there were one, it would just be freeBOOT 0.032.

You can install freeBOOT with a choice of two patches. One gives you Xbox 1 emulator compatibility and the other gives you the so-called full memory access which apparently has great possibilities in the future such as trainers like on Xbox 1.

thanks fellas.

Didn't realise there would never be another XBR so yes I definately need to get Freeboot on now then, as I thought it was just an 'alternative'/

But you say don't use flash360 to flash the nand and use xellous instead?

Thats whats confusing me at the moment.  It's been a while since I jtagged my box......but if I recall correctly Xell is the thing that would load on xbr if you turned 360 on with eject button.

I searched on Xellous and if I'm reading it right - it's a modified version of Xell?

But looking in the forum of Xellous it says in order to even have it on I have to flash it to the 360 with Flash360??

Surely thats not right?  Flash360 to Xellous, then Xellous to Freeboot?  Surely sounds like be better off going straight from XBR running Flash360 to load Freeboot image?

to answer part of my question

I found this.....

"Tell people to use XeLLouS instead of Flash360 if possible, there is an issue with bad-block management."

Hmmmmm so steps got even more confusing now lol - now need to find out how to get xellous on first in order to then get freeboot on....but orig step I found said use flash360 to get xellous on....but surely that could have the same potential issue

Download Xellous from the "usual" places. Rename xell-2f.bin to updslot0.bin and place in the root of your USB drive or stick. Launch Flash360. In Flash360 press button B (write update area of rebooter)
Then button A (write updslot0.bin (xell) )

Just did this today, worked fine.
