FreeStyleDash v2.0 Previews and FAQ
« Reply #15 on: April 30, 2010, 05:16:00 AM »

i read in the svn logs that its WMV only for now, maybe they will add support for xvid/divx and mp4 as the native dash, but since the use the native decoder, apis whatever for the video player no support for anything new. This is only possible with the complete port of a new media player like mplayer or vlc.

but i think the coder of ingenouis-x is working on a mplayer port, maybe he will release the source, or he even has to release the source as its gpl smile.gif

Once we have the framework in for multi-language, you can certainly help translate to X language.

Good news, that was the one thing I have been waiting for, even though I think I could use FreeStyleDash in right now already I want to have main interfaces like that in my native language. I don't need a translation for every little program but the basic things which show up when I turn on the machine I feel more comfortable having translated, somehow there is a stronger bond between me and the machine this way. Will finally give this a try when it is available  smile.gif

I like the way the dash looks now, don't like the new style, any chance of keeping the old style menu and FSD ?

IMHO, it could be the MOST important thing about 360 homebrews...reading natively mkvs, for example @1080p,  could transform this console in THE COMPLETE media center system...

WoW way to drop the bomb ice:) This im sure is a silly ? to good to have never been asked but.... Why not just "tap" into video playback the same way as normal nxe dash....A shortcut is a shortcut no matter where you launch unless freestyle would need special permissions??

What sort of "bond" do you mean althena,

JK your post somehow reminded me of that skit, I wish I could speak more languages than English but I gave French, German and Spanish up so my own fault.
Back on topic I can't see it being released long before its translated to all sorts, that other French dash was translated in no time and its not nearly as popular as FSD

Very excited about the media player tangent!  pop.gif

Will the back to dashboard issue be addressed? i.e. will we still have to go back to regular dash when exiting a game via guide button -> Y?

I usually exit a game by pushing guide, quick launch, and then selecting freestyle. Goes right to freestyle without going through nxe

Looks like the uhmm... the M$ dash. If it is going to imitate the M$ dash that much, why not just hack the M$ dash? From the looks of it, I might be the only one around that thinks the M$ dash is extremely insufficient.

Today I think it is more about looking cool, than actually being cool.

read the article again, the "nxe look" is just the default skin. Once it's released, there's going to be tons of skins that look nothing like nxe  cool.gif

It amazes me every time I turn on my Xbox how awesome FSD is.  While it takes the NXE over a minute to load my XBLA games, FSD does it instantly.  I love the clean interface and the features like the recent and favorites list.  I don't know how I like the new skin though since I feel that the NXE is the most poorly designed dashboard of any console.  Then again that could be because it is poorly organized, slow, and covered in ads; none of which is the case with FSD.  Hopefully the old skin will still be available though.

Its a shame M$ isn't as talented as you; keep up the great work!

Also, I use a forwarder disc and set the xbox to autoboot the disc.  I can then also choose "Play DVD game" from the guide menu to get back quickly.  It works very well.

FSD lists games/xbla quicker as it loads the index as FSD boots, which means if you add anything to it you have to reboot. NXE reads and scans content only when you go the Games' blade. Its not better coding, just a different way of doing things and each has there pros and cons
