Does it wipe the current contents of the drive?

I have a 3.5" 1tb drive connected internally and formatted in XBR. It's currently over 50% full with games etc, so I would hate to have to start over again.

No, it will just create the HDDX partition and overwrite this one if it already exists, but it won't overwrite the partition with all your Xbox 360 games and profiles. I just used this tool myself with an 250 GB drive I put in there a few weeks ago and all my Xbox 360 games and other contents are still there.

I dont understand how it could not potentially overwrite data.

After all, ok so if there is only a small amount of data on the drive then probably not an issue, and reduced chance of data being held in that area of the drive...though it could happen, but I presume that the tool will auto move the files to another area of the hdd.

But for those people that are still using small drives such as a 20gb drive, and have a couple of games and bits copied over, past the usual 13gb or so that would normally be free once other partitions and junk are in place.....then something will have to go else there wouldnt be enough room for the partition

It can potentially overwrite existing data. Always back up data before using it to be on the safe side.

If i don't care about xbox 1 compatability , and i have no save games i am worried about getting back. Can i just format the drive in the NXE and be done with it?

yes, this partition is only needed for original xbox1 games, it contains the emulator files...  so if you never plan to play xbox1 games (GOD or DVD or whatever) you dont need it

i have wiped mine (and not backed up like a fool)how do i get the emulator files back?

you cant ask for the files here!
get them from an official HDD or look for them elsewhere (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
