Code To Disable System Updates
« on: March 03, 2010, 02:44:00 AM »

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if it would be possible to write code to disable the System Updates from running whenever the XBOX 360 attempts to launch it (from HDD extracted ISO, or from DVD)?

This would be great as we would never to have to worry about killing our JTAGs!

Thanks,
J

Remove r6t3 or use the alternative method (I found that easier). Then never worry about a dead JTAG again as your efuses are protected

I know about that already, but a software alternative would be less invasive. Any ideas/interest anyone?

A less invasive method would be nice for those not savvy with a soldering iron, but by keeping such protection in software, you risk that at some point a countermeasure is discovered and deployed, blowing your e-fuse on alot of machines before the word spreads. In theory at least (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)

A less invasive method, should be, not doing the jtag, specially in a Zephyr or newer mobo, it requires good soldering skills.

jtag is very invasive, and no, i'm not joking, you already jtag'ed the console, so, why would blowing R6T3 or using some more solder would be much more invasive????

If he did not do the JTAG himself (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yeah right now the best way is to do the alternate method and not remove the resistor, just do the solder bridge between the 2 pins. It's quick and easy. Also, it can be easily un-done if need be.

Well even if you dont install the jtag wires yourself its really not a hard thing to do. You dont HAVE to be real good with a solder iron to pull it off, pretty easy really.

Yes, I did JTAG it myself... and it scared the living daylights out of me whilst doing it too, and yes, JTAGging is very invasive itself, but I was hoping to avoid soldering again. I guess I'll just bite the bullet... again.

On another issue (I don't know if I need to open another topic for this):
Evertime I attempt to boot the Gentoo Live CD, my Xbox hangs at different places - I've managed to get to the logon screen once - but usually it hangs before that (at different points). All my games run perfectly off USB - even without the DVD drive in. So I presume the JTAG is all good. Any ideas?

I simply remove the update folder from my games

not a sure fire way but its one less way and also saves some space
