XM360 is getting better and better...

I see Super Contra is finally not a problem anymore... what was the trick?

I'm experiencing the "Show DLC" freeze as well, do you think it might have something to do with the CSV file's attributes?

About the freezing issue: node21 once told me the first action performed when opening the "Show DLC" view is to read the DLC CSV file. I noticed that line endings in the DLC file are Unix-like, while in the XBLA file they're DOS-like. It's a long shot, but I think it's worth checking whether converting the DLC file to DOS will make a difference. If anyone has a chance to do so before I do this evening, please report on the outcome. Most advanced text editors have a function to convert between DOS and Unix formatting, there's also a tool in Unix-like environments called unix2dos and this should be the equivalent for Windows: Unix2DOS

Ok i have a legit 360 for Live and a Jtagged offline machine.
I have an Ext. HDD for games and use my 360 HDD between both consoles for saves, profiles, etc...

Can I use this to remove the drm on legit dlc i've bought off xbox live so I can use it on my Jtagged Xbox?

If so will it still be safe to use on Live (On legit 360?)

Interesting observation.  I'm not sure how that happened.  Maybe a difference between running perl from cmd prompt versus running perl from cygwin prompt?  Anyway...I run the exact same thing that get's uploaded (in fact, I create the zip right off of my memory stick after pulling it out of the 360).  So, these problems that people are having must be related to something that is on their 360 (and not on mine, or many others).  Hopefully, someone with this problem will catch me on IRC when we both have time to work through it.  I'd really like to get to the bottom of this hanging issue.  Actually, there seems to be 2 different issues: the inability to get to the Show DLC scene at all, and the inability to unlock DLC.

If you "unlock" your DLC it will no longer work on a non-jtag box.

Ok, I just got home and tried XM360 with a DLC CSV having DOS-like line endings, and it didn't freeze. It seems I was up to something. smile.gif

You can force DOS-like line endings by changing the perl script line printing to screen (that would be 64 for DLC and 60 for XBLA) to end with "\r\n" instead of just "\n".
CODE

#Unix     print "[$Ctitle],$newDate,$rating,$rating_perc,$raters,$title\n";
#DOS     print "[$Ctitle],$newDate,$rating,$rating_perc,$raters,$title\r\n";

I still don't get how this could work for some and not for others...

Not so easy, it seems. I have exactly one CSV file which doesn't make the application freeze, and it doesn't matter whether its line endings are Unix-like or DOS-like. Incidentally, though, it was created on a system which doesn't seem to correctly handle UTF-8, so symbols like the trademark or the umlaut are broken:

CODE
Brütal Legend Pack
and
[Army of Two™]

instead of

Brütal Legend Pack
and
[Army of Two™]

so right now I'm inclined to think the problem resides in character encoding rather than in line endings. Still not sure and still don't know why it works for some people.

Okay, so now we're getting somewhere.  It shouldn't have to do with the line endings since I'm using code that reads a line at a time and I'm pretty sure that it must know how to deal with either type of line ending...

But, is it possible that those who are having problems have run the scraping script themselves, or that they have left a file with the right (wrong?) filename on the root of one of their devices and it is being picked up instead of the one that I include in the zip?

You have to be consistent when you *display* these files.  Very few applications seem to deal with the UTF-8 encoding properly...so, even though the file may be correct, the app you are using to look at it may display it wrong.

Here's another thought...is it possible that the users who are having problems have their 360 set-up to use a different language/region/encoding as the default?  I'm using a system call to map the string from the csv to a wide character for display, and that system call knows about utf-8...but maybe it's also aware of the 360's region and is failing in some cases?

Some qualified feedback would be very useful. Personally I suspect not too many people run the script themselves, since it requires a Perl environment, but... who knows?
I have a PAL console set to the English language, anyway. Now let me check that "file left in the root of a device" thing...

Last post for tonight: it really seems the problem is in character encoding: I took the first few lines from the bundled DLC CSV file, which don't contain "suspicious" characters, and the app didn't freeze.

In related news, some names are corrupted in the XBLA CSV file, apparently a trailing "A" is appended to title names, as in:
CODE
58410841,2007/04/18,14,5020,3D Ultraa Minigolf
5841091d,2008/08/13,13,8082,FableA II Pub Games
58410968,2009/04/15,16,3106,OutRuna Online Arcade

Weird.
