ok, this is the 2nd thread about the 1.4's return...

i am going to go ahead an say that MS is removing the 1.6 lines and going back to the more stable 1.4's (just like the 1.5's)

take a pic of the xbox sticker showing the dates please?

Maybe the temperature probe was an issue.  It seems strange that it is missing some caps near the power supply side of the board.

a few things are possible (in addition to a return to 1.4s)

1: since they blew out alot of stock over xmas they are throwing out easier to produce boards to get xboxes back in stores quickly

2: they are getting rid of old backstock of boards to convert entirely to 1.6

3: the 2005 date is not a manufacture date but a refurbish date

4: you just lucked out

as a TSOPer mainly id love to see 1.4s come back

Also there was a thread for 1/25/05 I believe, but I think that lordvader is probably right about using old stock.  Unless the 1.4 board is cheaper to produce than the 1.6 board (ms would go with the cheapest to save money).

Maybe the Xcalibur/Xyclops chips were too expensive in manufacturing......

However this is good news for you, bad for me because i bought an xbox now that was 1.6 with mfg date 2004/03/14 (while there was some 2005/01/31 that could potentially be 1.4), the sn is byebye because the sticker flied and i can't find it anymore...

Here's a pic of the sticker with the last 5 digits of the serial number.

Clearly a new serial number according to this version identifier table:

Xbox Version determination by serial number

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 20XXX = v1.0

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 21XXX = v1.0

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 23XXX = v1.0 or v1.1

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 24XXX = v1.1

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 25XXX = v1.1

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 30XXX = v1.2

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 31XXX = v1.3

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 32XXX = v1.3

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 33XXX = v1.4 or v1.5

Xbox Serial Number: XXXXXXX 43XXX = v1.6

Pure speculation or wishful thinking. Only time will tell what happens
