This is happening to me not when unplugging from the mains, but every time its turned off and on again with the button on the front of the xbox.

Very weird. Of course the time/date reset if you unplug primary power. But I have not seen it reset with XBR3 while keeping the power cord plugged in. I have not tried testing if Xellous resets it or not though....

ok, i found out that it's only because i pluged off my power cable!

all good now.

Just done a bit of testing, once the clock is set, it will stay set until the the xbox is unplugged from the mains. If the clock is not set, every time the xbox is reset the clock will reset.

yes that's what caused my confusion too! i never set my clock right. every time i rebooted it would go again to 00 00. Now i set it up with correct time, and i can turn it off and on, with correct time

I was getting this but only after i installed the update for avatar stuff now when i turn on the xbox time and date has reset this never used to do this so if you have installed the update to get avatar stuff back it some how gubs up your time settings resetting them works thought.
