Dante's inferno plays fine for me. It's actually a pretty good game.

Make sure before you rip your games there are no fingerprints/ bad smudges on the disc cause that caused me a bad nxe install of one of my games. Cleaned disc, reinstalled and error didn't come up anymore.

All that is not the problem... It's purely a problem with the XBR itself, but my understanding goes as far as this to know... How to fix it or where exactly is the problem is unknown to me smile.gif At the least I want to inform the developers about the issue, hoping that Xbr4 will fix it, cause it's getting more and more difficult to find a jasper Elite ( 16MB ) now... and big block Arcades are still easy to find, with mfr date before 18th of June...

Unreadable Disk On A Harddrive Installed Game ( Fully On Jtag )
« Reply #16 on: March 28, 2010, 07:52:00 PM »

I first started noticing the Unreadable Disc errors while playing Metro 2033 on my Jtag. I tried installing the game multiple ways: NXE, NXE + NXE2GOD, ISO2GOD, QuickBoot, all with the same result = Unreadable Disc at random times when playing. Playing from the disc works fine. I am using a 2TB drive, so I decided to pop in an official 60GB drive and install Metro 2033 to that, and now I've been playing for an hour with no Unreadable Disc error.

So basically I think its a problem with XBR and Unofficial HDDs. I know the 2TB disc isn't failing, its brand new and I ran a scan on it already. I haven't played any other games as long as I've played Metro 2033 on my jtag, so I'm not sure If I'm going to run into this problem all the time, or just certain games.

Are the XBR developers aware of the problem?

Ok, I figured out the problem I believe.

Its a problem with the internal cable that runs from the 360 to the hdd, the one thats inside of the official hdd chasis/enclosure. I have 4 of these: 1 from an official 20GB, 1 from an official 60GB, and 2 from Chinese clones.

One of the chinese clone cables doesnt work at all, the other one "works" but the drive shows up as unformatted. So I no longer recommend ordering them from the link I posted above.

The official 20GB cable is the one I was using in the diagram above. With that cable hooked up i will randomly get Unreadable Disc errors when playing from hdd. I bought that second hand off eBay, so maybe there was a reason the guy was selling it!

The official 60GB cable is working with no problems at all right now, both with the official 60GB drive and my external 2TB drive. More testing is needed to make sure its not just a fluke, but so far so good. I'll follow up again soon.

Anyone know of a place that sells JUST the cable? Hate ordering up a whole drive just to get the cable...

edit: ooops, forgot this was a different thread. when i talk about my "above diagram" and "the link above" im refering to this thread: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=707691

Unreadable Disk On A Harddrive Installed Game ( Fully On Jtag )

Hummmm strange but I have the same thing ....

I've installed Afro Samurai first on 120Gb Official HDD (in fact not really : it's a Western Digital inside ...) ! The game was working great but launching my savegame make it bug (unreadable disc message, funny from hard drive). After that I've changed my mind, and choose to have the game on the USB HDD (that is a 500gb Western Digital). So I convert it from GOD to XeX format ... copy it on the USB HDD : same problem.
So i've tried other things : installing the game directly with the Xbox360 drive, to the USB HDD drive : same thing ! Etc ... etc ... etc ...

I wasn't really aware about patching XeX files, so I was asking myself : maybe it need to be patched ?

So i've used another USB HDD (in fact the Samsung 20Gb Xbox360 official that was in place before the 120Gb one ... but i've formatted it to FAT32...) to copy the game and try to patch the XEX files ! And how interresting : launching my savegame works now ! So I've tried again, with the same HDD and the original XeX file : works fine too !

It was really strange ... so I decide to check my 500Gb USB HDD ... Seven found me problems and solved them ... trying again the game from it : same problem again !

Well ... Now I have Afro Samurai on my 500Gb USB HDD working fine ! (I've finished the game using my savegame (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) And I think that I have understand (in my case) :

As everybody knows, we can't format 500Gb HDD to FAT32 format using Windows ... So I've found and used a freeware named FAT32Formatter that make it ! But the drive was really really slow to be recogniez on Windows ! And make my JTag Xbox360 boot even longer ! (Only the first time when I've turned it on !)

Windows found me little problems on my (brand new) 500Gb HDD, so I've decided to download maintenance software from Western Digital to check my drive in a better way ! And so I have been surprised to found on the wesite page of my drive a little software named Western Digital FAT32 formatter (EXTFAT32.EXE) Version 2.0 ....

So I decide to format again my HDD, backup data first ... then copy it back and defrag it all ... after that the drive was really faster to be recognize on Windows ! My JTag Xbox360 boot wasn't that longer too ! And my savegame of Afro Samurai was working !

So maybe this is the way to see ... how do you have format (everybody) your USB HDD ? And I don't want to be bad but how about the manufacturer ? For example Western Digital and Samsung (or Hitachi etc) isn't the same quality at all ...

I might be with you on this... I've formatted my 250GB WD HDD ( with official 360 firmware ) on the jtaged console again and the freezings changed. They became black screens with the possibility of quiting to the dashboard. So it was normal to think that this is the problem.

So I picked up a 60GB HDD ( official one ) which was "bricked" and unseeable by an unmodded 360 and put it instaed the 250GB. I've formatted it again with XBR and it seems to work now. Further testing will prove so.

As for the USB devices... tested on flash memory and except some lag it worked without freezing.

Few days ago a new HDD managment program was released, which has a Format function. I'll test it on my 250GB HDD and see if it works.

2+ hours playing on the 60GB HDD and still no problem... The 250GB is still freezing... I'm using the same case. So the problem is most likely in the formating itself.

Further report:

- using a 500GB external HDD and Splinter Cell in GOD container - it played ok for half a hour or so and still crashed.

from yesterday I have another problem. Suddenly all games that was copied by nxe stoped working "the game could not be started please dowload again" message pops up. It's very strange until yesterday EVERYTHING was fine. All games that I've copied by ftp after extracting from iso work just fine. Simply, all GOD games do not work for me anymore. Why? Any ideas

I have some extracted games that don't run off a HDD. It's a 3.5" drive connected by the stock connector. Fable II GOTY for instance freezes everytime on the first loading screen when starting a new game or loading a save. But, I put it on a USB flash drive and it runs just fine (haven't tried any others on a USB drive yet). Freezing also occurs in Skate 2 and Rise of the Argonauts (can't even get to main menu) and Over G Fighters (can't get in-game after choosing a mission).

I'm on a 512MB Jasper, XBR3.

Anyone have similar problems?

Had a simlar problem with GRAW2, the game would stutter like crazy and freeze up, from both usb hard drive and 360 hard drive.Tried 3 different 'versions' of the game and all had the same problem, would take 5 minutes to load anything, stutter every 10 seconds and eventually crash.Tried it on a 2nd xenon jtag i had (first was also a xenon jtag) and still the same problem, both using xreboot. The solution was to run the game as a god and launch from nxedash, game would not work any other way.All my other games launch fine extracted and run from freestle dash/xex menu.Has to be a common problm here from all the replies in this thread.

Sorry I don't really have this sort of issues .... my games all launching from the USB drive (I have two games that was make me the disc read error ... one that I have reinstall and finished ... and another one (don't even remember) that I have simply erase laugh.gif )

But in my case, like I said before : Format was the answer ... others seems to have problem with file transfer ... (using FileZilla too but only for DLC ... faster to copy it on internal HDD).

I say it before too but you don't even talking about the manufacturer of your hard drive ... mine only have Western Digital (inside and outside ...)

Seems like in every hack ... there are little surprises ... with DVD support that was needed good ones ... and not Mediarange or other low price stuffs ... (but that is the case for every hack using CD/DVD support due to errors during the burn ... Originals are pressed ...)

So I think that good hardware is always better ... look my case : a simple format program seems to cause problems ... (It will be great to have a program for that .... developped regarding JTag Hack for better compatibility ...)

So again don't forget the hardware .... maybe it's the source of the problems too ... tell more about it ...

Now excuse me everyone, my problem isn't really about a game now, but about DLC (So LIVE content). I have add some contents on my internal HDD (Fake official because this is a 120Gb Western Digital inside but everything always working fine with it ...) I have used XM360 to unlock DLC ... then test them ... On Rock Band I have 1/3 of them that appears but doesn't works ! Other works ... So this is my first DLC ... I spend time to understand (using before YarisSwap and others programs ...) but this issues not really help me to understand ... Why some work ? Why not others ? All copied using FileZilla and unlocked using XM360 1.3 ...

If anyone have any idea thanks a lot ...

EDIT : GTRagnarok : Same hardware here (I mean Xbox360 : Jasper V4 512Mb and XBReboot3 ... JTag was realised by LPT port) your story remember mine ... That was Afro Samurai (just look higher) not working on the USB HDD (using the USB port on the rear of the console) but was working great from USB flash key using the front USB port ... So that the way I start asking myself about the HDD itself ... 1 : It's not good ? Euh ... yes Western Digital I think it's good ... 2 : I make it fall when deballing it (Yes i'm totally full of chance ...) maybe I have damaged it sad.gif ... So I've check my HDD with Windows 7 ... little problems that W7 resolves but game still not working ... So in my way of understanding, I've decided to download the maintenance program from Western Digital, trying an even deep check of it .... And when I was on the page of my HDD model I see a little interresting program : Western Digital FAT32 Formatter ... Using it to reformat the 500Gb HDD ... Now Afro Samurai works just fine ... I've finished it using the USB HDD Drive wit the rear USB port of the Xbox360 ... Not even downloaded the maintenance program of Western Digital ... after reformat it : I've checked it again with W7 : no problem ...

Well formatting the HDD is the way. There are numerous combinations which are either going or not going to work smile.gif In my case I've formatted the 60GB HDD with Xbox 260 Commander and it works fine with occasional crashes ( very rare now ). So I'm not really using it. Instead I got a ultraslim LG HDD ( samsung inside ), formatted it to FAT32 with Swissknife and now it works like a charm ( waiting for XBR4 with 9199 to use it's full potential ).

So it's entirely ( with some exceptions ) a matter of formatting the hard drive.

Note: My 250GB HDD was Western Digital, properly working with it's former console, but couldn't run with mine...
