Unreadable Disk On A Harddrive Installed Game ( Fully On Jtag )
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:36:00 PM »

I'm not sure if I'm at the right subforum, and if needed someone can move it.

So I have a Jtag console, and after I got it finally up and running I've fired um XeXMenu and set up the FTP.

After that extracted Dante's Inferno with ISO2GOD 1.0.0.6 and copied it to the 360. The game started and all, but right after choosing the difficulty the Unreadable Disk error popped out. It shocked me really (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Tried different difficulty and it started but after some playing it gave Unreadable disk again.

I figiured that may be the program didn't extract the data files correctly with some errors.

So I burned the game on a CD and then installed it with the internal NXE installer. After that I've used NXE2GOD, and after some playing the game returned Unreadable Disk again.

Playing from the CD gives no problem ( till now, it might pop out too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

I still havent tested it with other games and searched for a similiar problem / solution but haven't found so untill I test more, I figured I can ask, if there is already a solution / answer (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thank you in advance.

Dante's Inferno works perfectly for me, I don't use GOD though, I just extract and FTP into hdd:\games and create Quickboot shortcuts.

There is something unusual with this game.

I posted, on another site, the other day, that when extracting the iso to usb:\games\Dantes Inferno it would not load with an error message of "Game Cannot Be Played. Please download it again" or something like that.

BUT it would work on HDD:\games\Dantes Inferno perfectly fine..copying from the usb folder (so no corruption there)

I then put the main backup in and ran it on the console for the first time from disc.  It then asked for an update off the disc.  I, perhaps foolishly, accepted the update......disc obviously worked....but AFTER taking the update...it now works fine USB too.

So why on earth pre-update would it not work from the usb hdd but would from the main hdd? (in both cases as extracted isos)

I can run Dantes Inferno with no problem from USB0:\Games\Dantes_Inferno

I extracted the ISO with Xbox Image Browser to my USB drive connected to my PC. Almost at the last level with no strange hickups or dirty disc errors.

I also start all my games with Freestyle Dash 1.03 and havn´t had a problem with any title ..YET! smile.gif so it might be the ISO2GOD thats the problem?

numlockhome....

did you ever install any system update from a disc since having the box jtagged?  Like said - dante wouldnt work for me from USB hdd but did from local hdd - both cases iso extracted not god.  But once the update from the cd came on it worked from usb hdd fine.  It was the first disc I'd put in the console since jtagged so as such had had no previous updates on

Well, after some reading people suggested that removing the $SystemUpdate folder will fix things. After trying it, nothing was different. Tried it with 2 Guitar Hero games, extracted on the PC and copied over ftp onto the HDD, after that directly played trough XeXMenu. Sometimes they didn't even start, Unreadable disk right after executing the .xex. Sometimes they work perfectly, and sometimes Unreadable disk pops out at some point.

When I jtaged my console, I jtaged one more. Exactly the same with one mfr. date day difference smile.gif It has the exact same problem. Game installed from a CD, and then made to GOD with NXE2GOD. Mine is with 250GB WD HDD, the other one is with 120GB original HDD. So the only thing left is the XBR3.

Both consoles are Japser 512MB. Both with not formated Memory Unit, so it can't be compromised. It seems it's a fault in the XBR. Still haven't tried just installing the game and playing it with the DVD inside, but that's not the point of the jtag smile.gif

If there is no solution, I'll just have to wait for XBR4 smile.gif

- get a fresh jtaggeable xbox360 (reflash the nand in case you have a previously jtagged one), JTAG it and put XBR3-BB on it.
- do the system update from Dante's Inferno. As it is proven now, it won't fuxxor up your jtag capabilities
- dump the nand again (first 1000 blocks would suffice, since that's the XBR part, right ?)
- zero out the KV and CONFIG part if you are paranoid

Et voila, you have a Dantes Inferno (so very uptodate) XBR3-BB-variant to spread around.
(of course rinse and repeat with appropriate changes for older xboxes with a smaller nand)

forgive the stupid question....

what is "XBR3-BB" and how does it differ to regular xbr3 that we have on for our specific mobo (in my case xenon)?

And why would you dump the nand again after flashing and performing system updates?  Don't understand what purpose them steps below are meant to serve other than the first 2 steps if you happened to be on xbr2 and under?

BB : big block. This is a modified version for Big Block Nand jaspers (256/512mb nand).

Purpose is that you can flash your customers xbox360's with an updated XBR3 (which works with the latest games without needing an update (like Dantes Inferno). Also, I suggested that to that make sure you're on XBR3 before you apply the system update.

(XBR4 -when it comes out- will probably have this update applied to it, but this way you can make your own XBR3.5 in the meantime smile.gif)

Well I've used XBR3_BB, and already preflashed it once, because I copied some things on the MU and as you know it crashed biggrin.gif. So it's pretty fresh xbr3_bb copy. And about installing Dante's Inferno update, is there a cirtain way to do it, because the game does not require the installation of one. I've removed the R6T3 resistor so I know that I don't have to warry about bad updates...

well I just ran the Dante's Inferno update by putting the disc in the drive (backup or original - any will work).  It then prompted me to update before I could play.  I was bricking it after I pressed yes though just in case it borked stuff smile.gif

Would like to have clarity on what/how these are meant to update stuff though?  If supposedly the dash is the latest version...but after that update it worked fine from usb HDD

Do you have any patch and/or DLC for this game installed? I had unreadable disc error with assassin's creed 2 with installed patch and DLC, always at the same place. Some guys said they had came across the same error (at the same place in the game) without JTAG, and without patch everything was ok. So i removed DLC from HDD, removed the patch (title update from Cache folder) and no more unreadable disc message appeared.
AFAIK (I am not quite sure about that, heard somewhere, can`t check it now) when you start a game from usb, patches installed on HDD can't be applied to this game, but they can be applied if you start a game from a xbox hdd (or GOD).

After some more testing the bottom line is that a game ran from the internal HDD just freezes ( whenever it wants ) or give s Unreadable disk.

Unitl now I've tried these methods, all returned Unreadable Disk at some point or the game freezes:

- Install from DVD to HDD, and then use NXE2GOD
- Use ISO2GOD to extract an ISO, and then copy it trough ftp ( XexMenu )
- Install from DVD to HDD, and play with the DVD inside
- Extract an ISO with another program ( forgot the name smile.gif ), somewhere on the HDD, and the result is the same

Playing the game form the DVD ( without installing ) gives no errors smile.gif

Harddrive works fine ( got it from another jtagged console )

As stated above, a console with the same specifications ( 512MB jasper, XBR3_BB, almost same mfr date ) has the exact same problem, so the obvious problem is the XBR3 dash.

That only means that the solution is XBR4, but if there is other it will be great smile.gif

Dante's inferno plays fine for me. It's actually a pretty good game.

Make sure before you rip your games there are no fingerprints/ bad smudges on the disc cause that caused me a bad nxe install of one of my games. Cleaned disc, reinstalled and error didn't come up anymore.
