How To Invoke The Compiler Manually, (libavcodec Related)

Hi all

Have anybody tried to compile and link files outside of the VS IDE?
I am trying to make libavcodec's build system work with the VS2005 compiler, and it would save me A LOT of time if I would find some documentation on how to accomplish this..
