Jtagged Xbox 360 + Hd Dvd Drive Question:
« on: January 23, 2010, 06:51:00 PM »

I don't know if this has already been done, but I can find no information on this. What I would like to do is remove my Xbox 360 DVD drive and mount an internal hard drive in its place. To install games, I'd like to use the HD DVD add-on drive. I don't believe there is any hacked firmware for it to be able to read discs, but is this even a possibility?

Its not exactly what you're looking for, but i believe i saw a modded 360 doing the same thing as you want, but what he did was switch the HD DVDdrive in the case with the internal 360 DVD drive flashed, and it worked fine over USB.

So was it just flashed with ixtreme, or something special to "emulate" the HD DVD drive?

Thanks for the response, by the way.

Also, would the Key for the normal Xbox 360 DVD drive matter if it was in the HD DVD enclosure?

You cant make the hddvd drive read games.
What you can do however, is replace the HDDVD drive with your standard DVD drive.
The HDDVD and regular dvd are the same size, so your regular dvd drive fits in the HDDVD case perfectly. You CANNOT plug the drive in thru USB and have it work though.
You still need to plug the drive in to the internal connections on the motherboard, so you will need to find a way to modify the cables to make them longer/fit outside the case. The sata cable is easy: just buy a longer one, its a standard sata cable.
The power cable is a little more difficult. You will have to lengthen the wires, probably manually, unless you can find someone to do it for you

Ahhh, I see...but if I do that, then how to I connect the Hard drive to the Xbox? I was going to use the Sata cable that the DVD drive uses.

Does anyone know of anywhere with pictures on this?

By the way, that is a great idea, just lengthening the cables!

If you want to internalize your 360 HDD, Plasmastorm over at XBH wrote up a modified tutorial on it.
