Netflix App Hack
« on: January 19, 2010, 08:18:00 AM »

I don't know if anyone has noticed this but if you are playing a movie in Netflix and sign off of xbox live the movie will continue without Xbox Live.  I was wondering if anyone (with great knowledge) could look over the Netflix app and see if it is possible to bypass the checking it does for Xbox Live and make it so it can be loaded like any other app in XBR?  You would be everyones hero!  Other than that XBR and Windows 7 Ultimate with Media Center and a Tuner card rocks.

Is it playing through the entire movie once you sign off? I know that when Netflix is streaming, it's forwarded for a little while in case of internet slow down, but I don't know how well it runs and for how long without being logged in.

probably the reason it does that is cause it only authenticates you at the beginning of a session.

i could be completely wrong but it seems really improbable that they would allow for such a possibility

Netflix only really needs internet connectivity, hence PSN and soon Wii streaming. I'm guessing what it does is authenticate you through Xbox Live and it sets itself so it know you are who you are. Once that's done, it only really needs a network connection. If you totally shut down your internet connection, the movie shouldn't play anymore. I'm speculating it only needs you to sign into Xbox Live for authentication purposes.
