I'm actually a little shocked by the smugness of the XBMC crew, Pioneers back in the Xbox1 era, would expect some loyalty to the BOX successor.
While there right to an extent that a HTPC would be of same cost to build outright and probably better suited, the software would definatly be a boon to the scene since so much hardware is already in place. But there priorities lye elsewhere now it seems.
I'm sure someone is probably already working on a media player project for the 360, I hope we see it soon.
It's hardly smugness. It's called being a realist. Porting it to xbox 360 would take 100's of man hours, potentially 1000's, just to even get it running with a reduced feature set. XBMC has come a long way since they decided to make linux their main development platform. The codebase and feature set is massive, why would they essentially want to take a step backward to support a platform that only a small fraction of 360 owners can use?
I wouldn't want them wasting their time on developing it, a HTPC does the job far better, is quieter and has no chance of having irreparable hardware failure. Especially when you consider the 360 already has support for most basic formats.
The code is GPL'ed, anyone who wishes to port it, can. I personally wouldn't use XBMC if it were on the 360 anyway, the xbox was a great media device for the time but now you can get network capable media devices capable of full 1080p for around USD$100.
