How To Create Ripped Version Of Games? (aka Smaller In Size)
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:23:00 PM »

I've seen some rips floating around the internet of games that are X360 games, but very small in size, for JTAG'ed consoles.

How does one go about creating rips? On PC? On XBR itself?

Thanks in advance!

Extracting the files from the .iso will often greatly reduce the filesize as .isos are padded out to 7.3GB normally. This is what you'd do normally if you're launching games straight from the HDD (or an external) with no disc via XeXLoader or another menu.

This is true, for example Dark Sector is 1.5 GB the full game  blink.gif

KOF 12 is 698 MB... you can even burn this on CD-R and play it from XBR. hahahahah

Cheers.

I use Xbox Image Browser to extract the game files.

Quite a few games when extracted are small. Burnout is about 3.2Gb compared to the 7.5Gb ISO image

rips can be made by first using xbox 360 image browser to rip the iso out into folders (what DVDCopy does on XexLoader), within the folder delete the $systemupdate folder, that will reduce the filsize a good bit usually, alot of games you can rip the intro out etc replace the intro even downsampling the intro to a lower bitrate or cutting it in half so it only shows first few seconds, they are in BIK format and use Bink video encoding, the tools are free off the web(legal) to re-encode them...

i managed to get Left 4 Dead 2 down to 2.23GB

if you extract a game from its usual size of 7.29gb,  how do you re-create the iso?? or just burn the files?

You cant (at least in any easy way) recreate the iso. You can however play it off the hard drive with xexloader, or if you want to burn it you can make a data cd/dvd with the files on it and play it from there.

But keep in mind that it´s only for jtagged boxes.

when ripping in the NXE, do you see smaller file sizes? or does it not take out padding?

I've thrown something together that atleast batch removes systemupdates and replaces moviefiles with placeholders, it can also delete alot more based on simple config files:

i assume that you are saving your games in xexloader / xexmenu compatible path like: USB://Games/Game

you just select the folder usb://games and the program will scan for systemupdates, movies and if available for smart cleaner files (who isn't really that smart tongue.gif) compatible games

IPB Image

the result:

before: IPB Image after: IPB Image

if your preferred language is not included this will happen:
IPB Image

if you think this is usefull, please test it and write your own smart cleaner files(check programpath/titles/) or click on show available titles in the program... the little button next to it is for finding out the title id via xextool(gonna add the readme in the next release sorry)

Hi Ize, I just tried your app, but when I use it to replace videos on Batman AA and Army of Two 40th day, the games won't start (disc read error). I then tried replacing your rep.bik with another bik from a diff game, and ran your app again, and Army of Two loaded up but then locked up at loading screen.

Also, can you make it so you can select a single game, I didn't realise it would go through my entire games folder when i used it sad.gif (only want to use it on games I have finished!)

Also a suggestion to further decrease size, an option to delete the nxeart files and icon file.

Thanks for this, will save me a ton of space.
