Xbmc 1080i Really Slow,with Tiny Fonts,16:9 V 4:3
« on: February 22, 2005, 09:38:00 PM »

When I set XBMC to 1080i, it becomes really slow. Like even the background animations and the scrolling slow down. Everything just looks jerky and slow. I understand that the higher resolution takes more processing power, but it's really pretty bad. Is this the experience everyone has?

Also the fonts are absolutely tiny. Is there any way to up their size?

Lastly, I understand that 1080i and 720p are both 16:9 formats, but is there any reason why a 1080i signal couldn't be outputed that's 4:3 so that those of us with 4:3 TVs that support 1080i can't fill up the whole thing like when using 480p?

The same thing happens with XBMC when I set it to 1080i 16:9.  The system memory drops down to 22mb.  I can deal with the slowness, but some of my movies won't play in that resolution.  If I check the logs, it basically says the it couldn't play it and then gives me a fatal error.  But playing the exact same movie in 720 16:9, and everything is fine.  I really like 1080i, I hope it can be improved.

common problem with all the xboes.

as the cpu is too slow and mem too low for 1080i stuff.

if you want 1080i playback then go for the friendtech upgrade.

But then there are a few games that do 1080i, whereas XBMC is choking on animating menu scrolling and stuff.

Try a skin without all the animations.  I am running at 1080i without issue.

I've run at 1080i 16:9 with no problems for months.

"i really like 1080i"?

if you have the option to use the better 720p why not go for it.  It will look better and run faster.

I'm fairly certain 1080i has higher resolution... 720p is easier to read on my TV, but 1080i is definitely better than 720p for games.
