Xexloader 0.26 Won't Perform Copydvd Function
« on: January 04, 2010, 07:22:00 PM »

Have not been able to find anyone with this problem. The CopyDVD feature will not work for me. Any time I start it using and original disc or a backup, it starts for a second, then the window closes.

I AM able to manually copy folders and files over, but for some games this is a hassle. Perhaps there is a trick to the CopyDVD function I am missing.

FYI, games play fine using discs, and they also play fine from the HDD when manually copied over, so my installation and hardware should be fine.

Thanks for any help.

P.S. Using XeXLoader 0.26 on a Xenon

Thanks for the response. The drive is fat32, and I am able to manually copy data over. I just can't use the CopyDVD function.

Dokworm actually figured out my problem. I did not have a "games" folder in the root of my hard drive. Adding that has done the trick.

Thanks for the help!

Bit of an update, the "games" folder isn't necessary, you must just be inside ANY folder for the process to work.
An example would be if you wanted to copy game "X," then you would go to your navigate to your Hdd and press "Y," then select "Create," which is how you make a folder. Make a folder named "X" where "X" is the name of your game. Navigate into that folder, press "Y," and select "CopyDVD."

One last bit of advice to anyone trying this, keep the folder names short. I have found that this helps in ensuring the game copies over properly.

Thanks again to Dokworm for the help!

As for the screeching, may be the problem, I have no idea...

BUT

I do have an idea what your problem is:
While you have the directories created on your drive, are your ACTUALLY navigating to that directory, then pressing "Y," then selecting CopyDVD? Part of my initial problem was always being in the root of the drive when executing the CopyDVD command.

Well, all of a sudden, it got really cold in my house.  The DVD-ROM isn't screeching anymore and the CopyDVD function works.  Also, the DVD-ROM used to get stuck (as of last night) trying to open but today that's not happening, so I guess all of this stuff works because it's cold?  uhh.gif Nothing else has changed..

Okay I figured it out, so this is for posterity's sake and anyone who has this problem will be able to try this.

The DVD-ROM was dusty inside and the grease that ran along the tracks of the laser and on the sides (where the disc tray slides) was all dried up.

All I had to do was clean them off with some q-tips and rubbing alcohol and grease those babies back up with "White Lithium Grease" and things started working perfectly!  No more grinding/screeching noises, no stuck tray, and best of all, XexLoader's CopyDVD WORKS!!

Have you tried manually copying data using the copy and paste commands from the "Y" button? Any of the data I have had issues with worked fine when using this method. I know this method is cumbersome, and can take a long time if there are a lot of files, but it has worked for me.

Let me know if that helps.

Also, how much progress is usually made when using CopyDVD? At least more or less than 50%?

By manually, I mean going to the DVD, highlighting a folder or file, pressing "Y," selecting "Copy," navigating to the folder you created for the game, pressing "Y," and selecting "Paste."

Repeat this process for all files and folders in the root of the DVD.

That's a pain in the ass!!!

Well, not all the problems are related to Laser lens, the of the laser is a big problem, it needs to be lubricated, but I don't know what to use, I used Shampoo but will not work for too long.

XexLoader has failed to copy a game from USB for me...

Some games can't be copied by xexloader but can be installed by NXE, I think, is somethig to do with the way Xexloader handles the copying of  disks...

Nxe:              reads from where DVD partition ends
XexLoader:    reads from beginning of game partition (from the outside to the inside)

Checked this with dvd tray open, can't assure is the same with all disk but almost sure
