Backing Up Dev Kit Saves
« on: October 24, 2009, 12:00:00 PM »

Hello, all.

I just got a new dev kit and bigger hard drive and I'm wondering how I can transfer my saves and all my content over to the the new drive--the saves are really all I care about.

Also, I can't just copy the saves and move them over to the new hdd, like on an Xbox 1 dev kit?

I'm not sure how to do this, so if anyone can help out, it'd be most appreciated.

Thanks.

P.S.

If I get a 360 hdd transfer kit, can I use that on dev kit hdds? And that would transfer everything, including my profile, right?

Finally, if I get a memory card, can I load save games on there that way and then stick them on the new dev kits hdd and be good to go?

Are you trying copy saves from another devkit to your devkit or from a retail to your devkit?

From devkit to devkit.  I would be interested to know how to take a save from a devkit to retail too, though, and vice versa.  Thanks.

For transferring saves from devkit to devkit all you need to do is copy the Content folder off of your other devkit's HDD and put it on your new.

Hey, cool.  That sounds easy enough, but why would the saves work with my new profile?  Also, do the achievements come with the saves and will my profile and gamerscore then transfer over as well?  If not, will a HDD transfer kit do the trick?  Thanks.

Unlike retails there's no specific process you need to do like recovering your profile because it's a totally different service not really meant for the general public. The retail profiles are structured differently from dev profiles. It should work to simply copy your content folder like gabe said. And as for transferring it, Xbox 360 Neighbourhood is really no different then using a transfer cable/kit aside from the rate of transfer. If you plug it in it will be a bit faster, but I personally wouldn't bother with the hassle of plugging things in; as for just you're profile it wouldn't really matter. But it's really up to you I don't know how strained you are on time/how many saves you're talking about..

I just tried using the HDD Transfer Cable and Hard Drive Transfer disc and it tells me that the attached hard drive is not a valid Xbox 360 hard drive.  So, it's not possible to use the transfer cable?

Well, you guys were definitely right about just transferring the Content folder--worked like a charm.  Since I have the same profiles and saves on two hard drives now, how does that work?  Can I go online with two instances of the same profile at the same time?  Or what?  Also, I tried many different ways to get the transfer cable to work, but wasn't able to.  I don't particularly ever want to use it, but is it not possible to use the transfer cable for dev hdds?  Thanks.
