Anyone have any spec's on these DevKit's? I am pretty sure they use the "Phillips" ODD? The screens look nice, and the Start guide is probably just distorted because of the time it takes for a computer to take the screenshot not matching to the time it takes for the guide to pop onto screen, just for any non believers out there, try it out yourself.

this is some really great news, i for one can't wait to see whats around the corner (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

i think it really is only a matter of time before someone manages to come up with a workaround for running restricted code, as someone already said, its impossible to make something unhackable, but easy to make it hard to hack.

props to the people behind the scenes that still press on with this work even though we arn't at the stage where running this on a non devkit box is possible, can't wait to see mame and xbmc running on a 360!

I hope this is legit.  If they can get true homebrew running on the 360, I'll have a reason to finally get rid of my old xbox.  My wife's been bugging me about it forever (do we really NEED three video game machines, and a computer???)  biggrin.gif .

It's a very long way from a developer working on a dev kit writing MAME and you being able to run it on your retail box. Developers hav eno way to produce signed retail code. And the hypervisor hole people are talking about exploiting is pretty damned narrow and sure to be plugged up fast.

There was a MAME on Xbox 1 ages before modded boxes came out. It was done by a legit developer in his free time and circulated pretty widely in the dev community. but it took a fully modded Xbox to make anything like that available for a retail box.

I was wondering what happened to this project.

Its good to see they are still working on it.

Now we just have to hope that when M$ releases a larger Hard Drive that it will be the key to cracking the 360.

simply amazing I can see it now N64 games running perfectly on the 360!! I know this is by no means "around the corner" but a Mame 360 emu is a very good start.

Dude running Zelda: Ocarina of time, (and majoras mask)  hybrid, starfox and shit like that would prolly make me cream in my jeans

well there could be another game that make exploiting easier one that you don't need a serial port one you can just run it up from your hdd or memory card like the first xbox with splintercelll or the hack on the psp with gta lcs (unpatched version). why just king kong there couple of 360 games out there that could have an exploit.

It's been over a year since the xbox360 was released yet it hasn't been cracked and looks unlikely ever to be. sad.gif
The xbox one was cracked within a few months of release.  We should forget about mame360 and leave it to Live Arcade.  People should be concentrating of updating  Mame for the original xbox like the execllant MAMEOX as it is stuck on version 0.84 for some time.

Where have you been? 360 is already booting linux. It's indeed running its first homebrew apps already, for certain really talented people pioneering this stuff. Of course it's only older kernel's right now, but it is indeed already happening. Now they just need to write the new homebrew. (And maybe work on expanding the 'sploit to other kernels if it's possible. Either way, some 360's now do homebrew, and that's worthy of a community.)

Speaking of specific homebrew.. Is there any new progress on this?

and at the moment, xboxhacker.net has dumped the hypervisor, and examining it for it's own vulnerabilities so that they may find a 'universal' exploit that works with all xbox 360 kernals, that is, until m$ decides to update those too. but did m$ really blow efuses so that you cannot downgrade your kernal? and if just about everything can be updated(or reflashed) by microsoft, once we find a vulnerability(a good solid one, that requires a game, and perhaps only a Burnt CD-R) we can begin to make kernal or dash replacement chips, and work on some Bios loaders(Pheonix, nkpatcher?) which will eventually lead us to ultimate modding on the xbox 360
