Nice one MS, this is the sort of thing that might win the console wars, such a simple idea can make such a difference, and the price doesn't seem to bad either! Good job!

I wonder if this means that whatever people create using this software will be copy righted by MS? That would suck if someone took the time to create a cool game or something then find in packed and sold by MS while the creator gets nothing.

Someone needs to read the fine print. Let’s say the good people at XBMC uses this to port there app to the 360. MS uses the fine print and claims ownership of said app and proceeds to sell it to the masses for $50.

And I don’t think this will allow just anyone that is not a part of the $99(creators club) to use the homebrew.  It seems to me that for everyone else you will need to get the homebrew threw MS at a price.

Don’t get me wrong I think this is a great idea. But you better believe that whatever MS plans are with this, one of them is making money off of it.

And for those that want to play backups you will still be waiting for the fabled mod chip or stick to the curent firmware hack.

Here is how I believe the (creators club) will work.  Anyone that is a member of this club will have a matching XNA Game Studio Express with a unique key.  Anything created with that particular  XNA Game Studio Express will be able to share their creations with those members only. Other  creators club’s will not be able to run the homebrew that was not created from their clubs  XNA Game Studio Express .

This will allow MS to control who can run the homebrew and allow them to charge non members to use other members homebrew.

I could be wrong on all of this, but this seems most likely how it will be.

So they found a way to filter and "proof read" all homebrew, at the same time stealing research and development ideas for free, like they did with the 360 dashboard from xbox 1 homebrew.  This is nonetheless very promising as they are giving us some slack on our leash and we will have the opporotunity to snoop around the yard more and choose where to crap.   Its gonna be funny how many copyright infringments theres gonna be in the first wave of homebrew submissions lol.     I think if they opened up Divx support on the 360 alot of people will simmer down and be happy with what they have.

Read the XNA FAQ for crying out loud.  You can save your XNA project as one file and email it to anybody else in the creator's club and they can compile it and run it.

This will NOT allow you to play backups. And I am sure you will have to PAY MS for XBMC if it is ever ported to the 360. That is IF XBMC people are willing to give MS the rights to it.

I can just hear it.... "Oh teh noes!!11!!1 We can't use homebrew as a defense anymore!!!!1!1"

Seriously though, I think this will only help modchip developers. The $99 XNA may not provide full system access, but all they need is one well placed buffer overflow and they could blow the whole system wide open.

I don't think modchips will die personally. Especially because you need internet access to even take advantage of this option in the first place. Personally, I enjoy burning discs and manipulating the file system on my original XBOX, and would prefer that my 360 is the same when I come around to getting one.

Modchips are not dead.

The games and programs allowed to be played on the console I'm guessing are going be regulated in some way so I am not that excited.

All I want is XBMC on the 360.  I don't care how it happens.  The more I read about this release the less likely it seems that it will allow software like XBMC but who knows.

I usually don't post here, but...

I am more than willing to pay about 80€ a year for the privilege to run code that did not have to pass MS Testing without voiding my guarantee by having to install a Mod-Chip. If XBMC is ported to the XNA, I'd be more than happy to pay that fee.

Sounds great for MS, people will be more than willing to pay MS $99 per year for the XBMC's crew hard work

Where is the justice in that
