Media Type Not Present/ Cannot Unlock Drive

I have never been able to backup a game in xbox backup creator because it has never been able to read the game :s I flashed the latest 0800 v3 and have the latest xbox backup creator... I put gears of war 3 in for example and it reads 49mb used of game disc or something similar and whenever I try to rip it won't work! this also means i cannot unlock my drive in the first place as the box is greyed out. searched endlessly for an answer, any ideas please?
