Newb Needs Dvd Drive Help
« on: September 22, 2011, 11:20:00 PM »

Hey guys. Newb here, but I've got a lot of exerience in PC's and I'm very comfortable with disassembling hardware. In fact, I've got two 360's in pieces right now. Anyways, let me get to the nitty gritty
I have two 360s. One gives a RRoD within a second of powering on, the other gives a flashing green middle light, and nothing else.
The original drive from the one that flashes green had a dead laser.
The disk drive from the one that has the instant RRoD is fine.
Problem; the one from the flashing-green is a Philips drive, the one from the RRoD is a Hitachi drive.
I want to put the Hitachi drive (from the RRoD) into the green-flashing xBox.
I know this will require lots of work (if it's even possible) but I'm patient and willing to do that.
Just one question; do I need to buy any kind of special adapter to be able to do it?
If not, can you put me in the right direction to get started?
Again, I know this may not be possible, but thought better to post than to just toss the Boxes.

Also, I tried all known problems, checking for shorts, bad power brick, reattaching xClamps, etc. but the instant RRoD isn't an overheat problem as it literally happens the second you turn on the xBox - I had an overheat before on the same box and it took 3 seconds to happen.

Thanks for your help, please try not to mind my noobiness.

Just need to spoof the drives via firmware to get them to work in systems that didn't come with the same exact model drive. No adaptors needed.

You make it sound easy (which is good) but can you give a little more exlanation or a link to a relevent guide ?(I searched all over for guides but each one is different and for a different purpose, don't want to mess up my drives!) Thanks for your repsonse, makes me happy to know it should work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Please help guys; I'm so eager to get this thing up and running. From what I understand, I have to use JungleFlasher to extract keys from the bad drive, then hook up the new drive, install the X**** firmware (i forget name) then inject the keys from the bad drive.
Is this correct? And can someone still give me a guide about extracting/injecting keys?
and how do I hook up the DVD drive? Obviously SATA from drive to PC for data, but then for the power do I just keep that plugged into the xBox?
