Xmbc Won't Run As Dashboard
« on: February 18, 2005, 10:20:00 AM »

I am trying to set XBMC as my dashboard, instead of EvoX. I copied default.xbe to the root (C:) together with xboxmediacenter.xml. I changed the home directory in the .xml file to the XBMC's install directory (C:\fonts\nk\apps\xbmc or something like that) and changed the name of the .xbe to xboxdash.xbe. I also deleted the E:\TDATA\something folder.
Since this gave me an Error 13 after booting, I changed it to evoxdash.xbe and eventually even to default.xbe again, but it didn't resolve the error.

What am I doing wrong here? I am getting quite frustrated since it should work to my opinion and I hate swapping the HDD all the time...

Am I missing some crucial step I had to follow?

Where is the manual?  The XBMC site is downz0red.

Please don't

Oh...and you may want to try just naming the default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe and see if that works.

The manual is offline at the moment, so I don't know where to look for it, supposing you mean the XBMC manual? I read the 'Set XBMC as dashboard' tutorial, but according to that I am doing all the things in the right way, at least as far as I can see...

edit xboxmediacenter.xml's <home>-</home> tag to point to wehre xbmc is installed

example
<home>f:\apps\xbmc\</home>

then copy xboxmediacenter.xml and default.xbe to where your bios boots your dashboard. Rename default.xbe to the xbe that your bios loads.

Be sure that xbmc functions properly before switching over

If you read the topic start you could have read that I already did this. I just can't figure out where it goes wrong. What does Error 13 say, except from unknown dashboard error?

Okay, for those who want to know how I finally managed it:

My XBOX didn't seem to boot from the root, but from C:\fonts\dashboard\default.xbe. When I saw this directory, I just tried to put the xbmc binary in it, and it worked. Maybe this is pretty obvious to you all, but for a n00b as I, I am pretty glad I found it out :).

Sounds like you are using a exploit (softmod)

If you had said that in the first post it would have helped alot....

Okay, I didn't know that was any different from ordinary mods. I will mention it in future questions. Thanks!
