This is a tool intended for devkits, and it allows you to edit your xlaunch.fdf file (which is where all of the images and other files for the dev launcher are held, plus a few extra like the Xbox 360 logo for some reason...).

Quite simple, just load your xlaunch.fdf file from your flash, edit the file you want to edit, and voila.

Don't be an idiot and replace files with a different extension than the one you chose to overwrite it with.

Shouts to gabe_k, skitzo, XeNoN.7, gamerfreak1727 (MUCH thanks to Gamer for helping me bug test.  He definitely helped me squash a LOT of bugs), KIWIDOGGIE, Doom.

PS:  Overwriting a file in your NAND is always dangerous.  Be careful with what you overwrite, and always make backups...

Enjoy.

Great app CLK!

Now we can customize the Dev launcher dash easier than ever.

Thanks for letting me test.

OH one thing. While I was testing, I just used fdf files from recoveries, and they always turned out to be Read Only, so if the app says "Access Denied" when you try to load the xlaunch.fdf file, go to the file's properties and uncheck "read-only", then it should work fine!

For anyone who may want them, I edited the backgrounds so they no longer have the "XNA" logo up top, and here's also a MW2-themed one I just made (may look a LITTLE off since I did all of this in Photoshop...):

No XNA Logo Files:

MW2:

Here are the rest of the files (the PSD for that + the PNG for what you replace the image in xlaunch.fdf with):

Instructions for the MW2 launcher are in the readme.

Do note though, I do not have an Xbox to test this on, so if something doesn't work (worse case scenario, your dev launcher doesn't load), go to the dash, boot in to XEXMenu or something and replace the modified xlaunch.fdf file with your backup.

Dev kits only since devs are the only ones with the xlaunch.fdf file/dev launcher (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

And by the way, had to fix a few bugs and I don't believe I can update the OP.

Here's the new link:

Aww, I thought for a second this was a way to change a normal Xbox 360's boot animation.

Sorry I got your hopes up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I know I just pushed out an update, but expect another update here in the next couple of days...

I sort of messed it up in the current version, but I intended to make it so that if you're overwriting a file, and the new file is going to overwrite any part of the next file, then it wouldn't let you.  I found this annoying when I tried changing the background image, and it kept telling me the file size was too big, so right now I'm working on shifting the files and re-writing the integers to keep everything read correctly so that you can overwrite with any filesize.

What would it take to edit the 360's bootanim??  Has anyone tried extracting these files???

Does anyone know if these files can be replaced ? (from memory they're .xex or .xexp files or something like that tha hints at an executable)

Bummer about the non-devkit thing :-(

I did that in Photoshop, and was trying to think of some different xex names - couldn't think of any
