Just wanted to say thanks for this fix. I just did my zephyr with this.

Booted perfectly. So far so good.

It's truly amazing on how you figure this stuff out.

No more E79, woohoo.

I know its probably a dumb question but where is AUD_CLAMP? Can some one point to or post a pic? Thanks.

Post #1 has a download link. In the download is a PDF showing the location of AUD_CLAMP

So do we have to some how patch xell for it to work with AUD_CLAMP.  It would be nice to still have xell as a backup.

benq - falcon mobo smile.gif

Just to let you know (To my knowlege): If you are having probs with a Falcon then it's almost certainly wiring/components you're using and it's unlikely this app will help you greatly. Mind you I (Generally) only see Falcons from one part of the world (which I understand is generally only from one factory etc..) But like I said I've never had a problem with a Falcon that was done correctly ...

If you still have probs take a photo of ur wiring and send it to me (or post it)

PS:When I get time I might do an extensive updated tut showing the exact method I use etc.. But I wont have time for that for at least a couple of weeks (And I still have a lot of side-projects going)

I did the basic SMC patch, moved the wire to AUDIO_CLAMP and freeboot 9199 is working well.

However, the eject button boots to the dashboard and not XeLLous. Is that expected?

Booting from controller in the back just gives a black screen.

Yes, I applied the basic patch i.e.

smc_io smc_dec.bin smc_patched.bin

Then used Freeboot Toolbox Maker 2.4 to make the custom image, injecting the patched smc.

Flashed the whole resulting image using a USB flasher. It boots and works fine, but boots to the dash from the eject button instead of XeLLous.

I'm assuming that's not normal.

OK I must be doing something wrong because I cannot get my Zephyr system running Freeboot with the AUD_CLAMP smc patch no matter what I do. It was running Freeboot with the original JTAG wiring, albeit with the random E79 and system reset problems which is why I wanted to try this fix. This is exactly what I'm doing step by step:

- Using original NAND backup for Freeboot image
- Extract smc.bin from Xell image (my Zephyr is CB 4580 and requires the Falcon version)
- Use smc_io.exe to patch smc.bin with basic patch, no problems
- Build Freeboot image exactly according to instructions, placing patched smc.bin in the data folder
- Flash AUD_CLAMP patched Xell to NAND via USB (Xell boots fine)
- Update to Xellous via USB flash drive (Xellous boots fine)
- Try to update to Freeboot via USB flash drive (no go, usually only middle green light but no video, or sometimes gets stuck in a repeating rebooting pattern, sometimes E79 error)

It seems to me it can't be my wiring because the AUD_CLAMP patched Xell boots just fine every time, and so does Xellous when I update. Plus I can see plain as day I have a solid connection to the AUD_CLAMP solder point on the motherboard. I'm not a soldering noob. I also assume since I had to use the Falcon version of Freeboot with the original JTAG wiring, I'd have to use the Falcon version with the new method. Is that right?

I've tried building the Freeboot image both manually with ibuild.exe and using Freeboot Toolbox Maker 2.4. I've tried flashing the NAND directly via my USB adapter and via updating through Xellous. I've tried patching the smc.bin file manually using smc_io.exe and using SMC Updater 0.2. I've tried manually injecting the patched smc.bin into a pre-built Freeboot image and letting ibuild.exe import the file. NOTHING is working. The closest I can get to breathing life back in the Xbox is when it boots and displays the Xbox 360 logo, but keeps rebooting on its own, or rebooting to no video, or rebooting to E79. Everything was running fine before I switched the wiring, except for the random E79 and system settings reset like everyone else experiences with a Zephyr system.

Am I missing something obvious? Should I be getting the smc.bin file from somewhere other than a Xell image? I know how to build a Freeboot image because the one I built for the old wiring worked fine. BTW I also tried to flash XBR just in case it was a Freeboot issue, and with XBR flashed the Xbox would boot with the middle green light and no video, but no red ring error. I am at my wit's end with this because I've tried everything I can think of. Maybe someone else with a Zephyr can tell me EXACTLY step by step what they did to get this working with Freeboot. Also, where you got the smc.bin file.

Good thing I have a couple Xenon JTAG 360s as backup.

So. I was bored, and thought id fuck with the smc.bin from a xenon. But, i ended up using the falcon on accident.( i blame the beer ) So i said fuck it, plugged it in, booted it up and it worked! Havent had any e79 issues at all! about 10-15 boots, hdd in, out, remote, without, hdmi, component, loaded alan wake for a minute from hdd, everything works!! I noticed that sometimes, it takes a little bit longer to boot up. maybe by a few seconds but no e76! Wooo!

Weird, but awesome!

very strange the bugfix is working for everybody

when i do the bugfix smc_io SMC_dec.bin SMC_patched.bin 83 28 C0 03
and replace the file (renamed to smc.bin) in my freeboot folder and build a new img
i get RROD all the time

Vergleichen der Dateien SMC_dec.bin und SMC_PATCHED.BIN
00002E9E: D0 F8
00002E9F: E0 D0
00002EA0: F8 E0
should be patched correctly

without the fix i get RROD 20% of the boots (falcon, alternate (falcon) wiring with one wire to ROL board, diodes)

also have a cygnos2 for flashing only, no cygnos2 jtag wiring

the patch worked for me without doing the new wiring.

falcons now boot all the time instead of 90% of the time

I always found the Xbox rebooting while FSD or XM360 scanning the HDD after SMC patched to AUD_CLAMP.
I found this on 3 xbox for now...

can anyone confirm this?

thx
