ok I thought the kv.bin was only required for that 1 percent of games.

A kv.bin is always required for resigning.  A generic one will work 99% of the time, but there are a few games which tie the save game to your console and thus require the target console's unique kv.bin for resigning.  If you don't have it, those saves can't be properly resigned.

Not trying to be difficult, but the first post explains it all, no need to go into detail again.  Just snag it from one of the other resigner apps out there.

I've been having a problem recently, I wonder if you could help out.

I have used this program for a little while, I used CON Flag Remover before and Hash Block Calculator.
To obtain the files, I have used Slashr's USB program.

My set up is-
My banned Xbox
My girlfriends unbanned xbox

I have been playing Red Dead Redemption recently, and removing the flag when I need to play at my girlfriends. The problem is that the icon for Red Dead seems corrupted or something.

On Friday I went to mine and changed the console ID to my xbox and the icon was invisible in the recent games menu. On the Achievements and Avatar Awards lists it appeared as a corrupted 'noise' image.
Then if I look again, it appears as random icons of games I've played before, or gamertag images (eg. the Yellow smiley face).

I couldn't get it fixed, so I used an older backup of my gamer profile from two days previous. This seemed to work and the image appeared so I continued using this as it was only one achievement from where I was.

Now I'm at my girlfriend's trying to remove the flag, but the same is happening with the icon. I don't want to continue with a corrupted profile.

I've never had this happen before now, only since playing Red Dead, and it is the only icon that seems to be corrupted. Of course, it may be an issue with Slashr's program, I'll ask him about it too.

Any knowledge/help appreciated. Thanks.
(And thank you for a great time saving program!)

Ok, I must be being dim but I can't get it to patch anything. Previous versions just said 0 done, the latest version just says:

Skipped <game>
0 backups created
0 flags edited
0 files resigned
1 skipped files
0 errors

I'm selecting the file (manually and with select all) and then pressing UnCorrupt (with both checkboxes checked). It actually looks like it's deselecting everything when I click the button, but that could just be cosmetic.

The latest version works fine for me.  Maybe you deleted KV.bin from the Resources folder when you upgraded?

Thanks for the reply, but nope, file is there. Running Win7 x64, not sure if that makes a diff.

I'll fire it up in visual studio when I get a few mins, see what it's up to.

Is it a profile? if so, you have to go to settings and check the edit profile checkbox, otherwise it will skip it. it willl also skip it if the ID's that are set already match what is in the file. It will also skip it if its a forza 2 tuning file.

Can I make a couple of suggestions?

1. Have File | Open (the Add action) default to the last used location.  The Settings | Open File behaves this way, but File | Open does not.  (Edit: To clarify, I mean default to last used location on first launch of the application.)

2. Store two IDs, one for Console A and one for Console B.  Instead of having to manually select files to set IDs each time you want to move your saves, just store them both and add a toggle button to the interface for selecting the active ID.
The latest version works fine for me.  Maybe you deleted KV.bin from the Resources folder when you upgraded?

1. I plan to have that, the settings > open file dialog stores the last used location automatically as its an open file dialog, while add is an open folder dialog. The open folder dialog remembers the last location until you exit the program.

2. good idea, ill look into storing profile data to an xml and have a drop down box and the main screen to select which one to use.

has anyone tested the FTP download/upload? i have someone who cant connect at all yet it works fine for me so its a bit hard to see why its failing. i also have to fix the ftp upload, it doesnt seem to be uploading to MU's, only to hdd1.

BTW. Im on Win7 x64 as well. the application is running in x86 due to the chilkat dll

I spent a solid hour today trying every possible combination I could think of to move my profile from a banned box to a stock one.  Looks like the weak link is USB Xtaf Gui.  This should have been my first step--I formatted the USB device on the 360 and moved my profile to it, then restarted the 360 to verify it was working as expected.  I then used USB Xtaf Gui to extract the profile to my computer, deleted it from USB and copied it back with USB Xtaf Gui, without modifying the profile at all.  Put the USB drive in the 360, fired it up and it would not load.  The 360 says there is 1 profile available, but the gamerscore is 0 and the avatar is a shadow figure.  Trying to load the profile does nothing at all.  I guess I'm the only person trying to do things that way.

Oh well--I'll probably just get a new 360, mod it and keep it offline forever.

It's not a profile, it's a Mass Effect 1 save. It looks like it's down to the save being half done previously (ids changed but not-resigned.. "file is in use" error). Re-extracted the save from the original console and it's not being skipped now, thanks.

The actual kv.bin I want to use is "the wrong size" though (16,896 bytes), so can't actually test it all the way through yet. Does anyone know why two different tools produce different kv files? Is there any way to convert one to the other?

Two noob questions:

1. does this work with .con files or just gamesaves?

2. How do I find the three ID's I need (profile, console, title)

Thanks

1. it will open and attempt to work with any con files, but i cant guarantee that it will work. It was designed around the idea of resigning gamesaves and profiles. I know CONSaver will freeze up on some CON files (such as settings files for games) which is a problem with X360.dll as Le Fluffie has the same problem. If it doesnt freeze up on the save, then it should work.

2. you can find them by creating a new save on the profile/console/device that you want to use and loading it in CONSaver, right click the save and set id's as selected

could also be the usb stick, have you tried a different one? if so, report the bug the Xtaf GUI guys.

ah, i havnt added a check to see if the file is resigned or not yet, it only resigns if it Edits the ID's. im dreading adding at as X360.dll is a pain to work with.

Depending on where you get the kv.bin from, it can be decrypted or encrypted, some also add the first 16 bytes from the nand (as the KV.bin is stored at 0x1 in the nand, not 0x0) so some dump from 0x0, some dump from 0x1. if it was dumped from 0x0 then you can delete the first 16 bytes using a hex editor, but imo its easier to to dump the kv.bin with ibuild which produces the correct file size

On the first one I'd probably just roll it back to the backup if any of the selected stages fail.

I've never used iBuild, I'll try and find a copy and give it a go - thanks.

ibuild comes with the freeboot package

Works a treat with the kv.bin of the correct size for saves, doesn't seem to like moving my profile though. It doesn't appear as "corrupt" on my other box, but it says something about my XBox Live information being invalid and to recover my profile from XBox Live :-( I've tried with and without replacing IDs on profiles, same result.
