Easy Freeboot
« Reply #45 on: April 19, 2010, 11:40:00 PM »

Ok I did everything step by step, I got my SMC by extracting from
original image in 360 Flash Tool. I renamed the SMC_dec.bin to SMC.bin
put in the DATA folder.

Everything is created fine supposdly, grab the file before hitting ok.
I then wrote it and I get E79, XBR works so its todo with freeBoot
or Im missing something anyone help me out?

Xenon motherboard, I know there is alot issues with E79 and freeboot
lately but just kinda lost at the moment. I have tried Cygnos SMC
got the same thing.

Solved my E79 by extracting SMC from XBR version that worked on the
system. Then I got E71, fixed that after some help on IRC, needed to move
some bad blocks.

Needless to say all my own errors, great little program worked great

So i will be taking my original 6XXX NAND image and my SMC from my XBR3 NAND image to create the FREEboot image, but what about bad blocks?  Should i run this through badblockremapper after the FREEboot image is created? using my original 6XXX NAND as reference for the bad block locations?

Should xellous be used instead of flash360 to handle bad blocks?

Question has been asked twice but not answered - Will Easy 2.02 work with Freeboot 0.032?

Cheers in advance

Easy 2.02 works with Freeboot 0.032 just tested it with Jasper 16mb kernel 6xxx and JasperXBR SMC.

Thanks for the tool.

I had 4 bad blocks in my original NAND image and tried to use Xellous to write my updated freeboot image.  It did not handle the bad blocks correctly.  I am going to have to move them manually using nandpro.

Where are you guys getting Easy v2.02 from? The first page only contains a link to v2.0

Looks like my XBR3 SMC with NAND bad blocks remapped manually works fine.  Now i am flashing a Cygnos SMC image to see if it works too just for the record.

E-79 with Cygnos SMC from Xbins, make sure to use your XBR3 SMC_dec renamed to SMC.bin in the datafolder if you plan on upgrading to freeBOOT from XBR3.  Also definitely make sure to remap your bad blocks manually using nandpro.

I receive error, something went wrong. I tried both versions.

Also, when I try to do it manually, w.o the program, I get this:
ERROR: File "Nand.bin" could not be opened.
ERROR: I/O error.

Any help?

So if I would like to go from XBR3 to FreeBoot I have to get the SMC.bin from the XBR.bin and not the ORIG.bin?

Thats what I've been reading

Thnx!

And by reading that you guys get your SMC.bin with "360 Flash Tool" is guess that is the same application that is also called "360 Flash Dump Tool" here at xbox-scene (My Webpage)? Sorry for retarded questions but I just want to be sure before I proceed.

I used 2 tools to make 1 nand image which i hope will work.
I used Free-boot 0.32 ran your app selecting my XBR nand... which was a no go. It would say something went wrong.
So ended up using my ORIG nand image and the program made a freeboot image.  muhaha.gif
Then i used flashtool to put in my SMC, updated keyvaults back into the new image. Im about to flash using Flash360, hopefully i wont get any E79/71 errors.
Im upgrading from XBR3  dry.gif

Edit:   laugh.gif figures RROD 0022
Had a hard time getting Maximus nandflasher to read my nand  grr.gif ... but i reflashed to XBR3 and everything is good again. Can someone tell me a possible cause ?

Yeah same tool, if your upgrading from XBR3 dump your nand then use that program to extract the patched SMC from it to use when building your freeboot image, good luck

okay I put freeboot in a new directory and it loaded the nand fine.  Now everything works up until the create image option.  When I click create image option nothing happens.  I've waited 5 minutes and no "done" prompt and no file is created

I've used this app for a few freeboot machines, but came across a problem with a Zephyr console.

Without being able to see the content of the package, it's hard to say but I think the SMC for the Zephyr is wrong. To cut a long story short, it kills the console even to the point where the Flash Controller isn't detectable! I needed to short the NAND pins to force it to be detected again, something I really don't like doing. I flashed it manually using ibuild and the SMC from XBR_8955_3b and it worked fine (and still is).
