Xport Not Deleting Properly ?
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:41:00 PM »

Needed to make some room before transfer, deleted stuff, didnt actually freed any space. "Freed" enough space for transfer but trying to start and get the "disk empty" error...

What gives ???

Yes I would also like to know why xport360 does not free space on hdd when I delete something. At first I said to myself "maybe it's a compatibility issue with win7" but now i'm running winxp and it still does this. I think this is something that was supposed to be like this, remember it has undelete function maybe this is how it does it by just hiding data instead of deleting but this sucks non the less. Now I have to use xexmenu to delete files and xport360 to find what the id's and names of those files are and it's really starting to get silly is there a way to make xport360 really delete files when you actually tell it to yourself?

Sounds like xport360 just flags the files a deleted without freeing up the space. But it does not reuse the deleted file space when it is adding a new file. Have you tried my Xbox 360 Commander yet? It deletes the file and releases the hard disk space to be reused. The downside is there is no chance of undeleting the file once it has been deleted.

Thats ok I never deleted anything by mistake so I should not need an undelete so ill give 360 Commander a try cheers

Edit: Just tried 360 commander it works great good job dude, all it needs is to extract the title id's from the files in 0000000000000000 folder do you think you can add this in the future please icepir8 ?

Weird thing is, i have used the same xport version on the same machine, on the same installation of win7ult 32bit with success. Used it lots, because xplorer didnt give folder content names.

Now, one day i needed to transfer some content over and it just wouldnt free space up. No idea what changed. Of course, i've been installing games and software, no hardware devices were changed/removed/added... Well, go figure. Need to try Commander.

xport lost me some 20-30gb of data, so i had to dump profiles/saves, format and re-send all the data in (120gb took the bloody time...) to get it back. Isn't there some sort of utility that fixes such errors on xbox drives ? Something of scandisk sort ?

Thats what I ended up doing twice after I made some calculation of how much free space I should have and found out that I has about 20gb off :/ the only thing that keeps me using xport360 is the fact that it tells you whats inside the folders so there is no need to look at Kingla's list to know what the stuff is every time you want to do something and it even tells you when folders are empty so you can get rid of them and it does not get cluttered I really hope that xbox 360 commander adds this feature to his next release.

So if I've ended up loosing about 100gb I should backup my profile and format the hdd?

My Xbox is a JTAG'ed, 250GB HDD with ixtreme LT, freeBOOT and a 9199 dashboard.

Do I do this through the Xbox menus? Like backup my profile to a USB stick, format the hdd, then install XeXmenu with my installdisc and copy all my files back in place?
And what about the partitions, like I have 3 partitions, one named Flash, another named hdd1 and the last, hddx.
Could someone please help with with some guidance here? I really screwed up with XPort   dry.gif

I've never used Xport, but like Ice said, it is probably just setting the filename length flag to 0xE5 which will mark it as "deleted". It probably doesn't free the chain.

Easy Solution: Backup the contents, format, and restore.

Improper FATX coding. Xport360 never has been a quality application.

I have experienced this problem as well in the past. Not sure why it happens.

Solution: Backup all important files/data then format the HDD in your Xbox 360 console.

If you dont have enough space on your PC to backup your Xbox HDD, then just backup your saved games and profiles. Any purchased content can be re-downloaded from your Xbox dashboard (Account Management -> Download History)
