I can't really find value in this application.  Its only purpose is to updated BenQ drives from LT 1.0 to 1.1 from DOS?

I havent updated an LT flashed drive yet, from what I understand you can't dump the f/w once you flash LT? You have to use a backup and rebuild a new ix image? Can anyone clear this up for me?

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to dump the f/w if it has IX LT on it, that makes no sense. This must be for people who simply don't want to use JungleFlasher, etc, and are waiting for the next release of DosFlash or something.

To upgrade my BenQ I use FirmTool v1.3.1 to patch the firmware and DosFlash v1.3 to flash. Those I used when I updated to LT and I didn't found any problems flashing that way. What's different with these tools and why should I pick them instead of the other tools?. There seems to be no problem with them (FirmTool+DosFlash) flashing in DOS.

EDIT/UPDATE:
After doing a quick test, I found that BenTool does less modifications to the target firmware than FirmTool. Including the Original Key, the total bytes modified in the target firmware are (comparing Original LT to Modified LT with Original Key):

FirmTool: 71 differences found.
BenTool: 47 differences found.

The test was done with LT v1.0.

thats right once flashed with LT you can not dump the drive again you will need you're key file or backup of original or use the cut tracks and resistor method to get a full dump on a liteon drive but don't know if this is the case with benq drives.

Why?

absolutely useless tool

you can dump and redump benq drives as many times as you want with Lt its only liteon you cant unless you mod the drive board

Dude, your just confusing people.
Benq is effing simple to update! No half tray open, no sticking some probe in your drives asshole, just hook it up and update it in JF or MTK. Don't know why this program would be needed, I just updated my friends benq in while rollin' up some of that doja MAAAYYNNNEE!

I think what we need to know is if this is any different than using iPrep or JF. I've used iPrep many time flashing the new LT firmware and have had no trouble. So is there any significant reason for using this tool?

Thanks.

I made this for use in iPrep as Firmtool does not always copy data correctly to LT firmware.
Check for yourself's, make a LT CFW in JF then use FirmTool and byte compare, more often than not you will see the Firmtool CFW is different.
eg,
FirmTool Source key @0xC030, moves it to 0xE030
JungleFlasher Source key @0xC030, moves it to 0xE040 - Assume this is correct.
benTool Source key @0xC030, moves it to 0xE040 - output 100% byte for byte match to what JungleFlasher produces.

This is not a replacement of DosFlash, just a BenQ version of liteTool, use it or not, is upto you.
It will also take any BenQ OFW or Pre-Patched CFW and patch LT with the correct info in the right place.

All my 16-Bit apps are made with the permission of Caster420 and designed to further Firmtool as that is no longer being developed.
I'm just not as skilled as Caster420 and have had to split the Firmtool updates into separate applications for each firmware type.

Thanks for clarify Klutsh. What better answer than from the author itself  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

One question, if I may: You're right about the location where Firmtool is patching the Original Key in LT (0xE030), and also, FirmTool is adding extra data (24 bytes) to LT firmware. The question is, for an always-offline-user, what kind of problems the user could face, when everything seems normal for backups (installation to HDD, reading, waves, no dirty disc errors) since BenQ LT lauch? Extending the question: What could FirmTool done to the LT firmware (in damage, I mean). Is it better to re-flash ASAP?

Thanks  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
