Now we're talking, great app! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I tried what others posted before and answered "no, no" at program startup (don't want the program to mess with my hddss data) and now with the latest tool version I can see the content inside all three partitions.

I also extracted a game save from my profile dir on my jtag 500gb hd to the PC and compared it to an old backup made from my original MS 120gb and they are binary identical, so reading files seem to work fine.

Haven't tried writing anything to it yet though, but will do soon.

I'm really happy to finally find a program that lets me manage my 500gd hd as all other apps I've tested (fatxplorer, explorer360 hexedited, lefluffie, modio) failed.

Would love to have normal "right-click -> cut/paste" functionality in a later version, rather than this "right-click -> create dir for copied files" style

XBox 360 Commander rev 5

Whats new?

Drag and Drop improved.

Double clicking on a directory in the right window changes to that directory.

Fixed Partition 1 problem

Fixed crash when updating the Calculated size in the HDDSS.

Error checking of the files and folders being added is still nil so back up first!

Lookin good so far.  And great to see so many revisions released so quickly.  You're on the ball, icepir8icepir8.  Having a few problems writing to the drive though.  Just seems to hang once I drag and drop a file to the right window, but transferring from the drive to my laptop works fine.  If you need anyone to test new revisions or new features in the future, with different types of HDD setups, let me know.

This app is looking very good and useful.

I don't have much to add but I'm using Windows 7 (64 bit) and it will only recognize my drive if I run the exe as administrator.  Not a big deal but just thought I would share for some people who might think the app isn't working for them.

Windows Vista and 7 will require it to be run as administrator since it has to access the hardware directly.

First I want to thank you for this great program. It was time for someone to work with the xbox hdd more seriously.

But I'm writing with a problem.

I'm connecting a 250GB WD HDD ( xbox 360 hddss.bin installed ), which is formatted and used by a jtagged console. Initially the drive had freezing problems and after some testing it seems the problem is with the formatting of the drive.

So far so good, but formatting is now only possible on jtagged consoles ( unmodded consoles return error when trying to format ), and Xbox360 Commander Beta 5 opens the hdd ( xplorer360 and xport does not see it ) but didn't see the contents of Partition 3 and none of the features does work ( defragment, checking, formatting ). This when connected with HDD transfer cable.

For now I can't test with sata connection, and I'll be able later today, so in that time I'm asking for some suggestions?

For more info about my problem: Unreadable Disk On A Harddrive Installed Game ( Fully On Jtag )

Connecting a 120 gig HDD.  I open up the program, hit open disc, it says it found a HDD, I click ok, then it crashes.

First - thank you icepir8icepir8 for the program - great to see free apps like this smile.gif

I am using a 500gb WD BEVT drive connected via USB on Win XP. I got the program to recognise the drive by restoring my 20gb backup via xport.

Questions:

Can you please explain in detail what updating the HDDSS.bin/ calculating the drive is doing on drives > 250gb?
Is formating the drive going to create proper partitions on a jtag (i.e. non MS > 250gb drive)? i.e. Partition 1, Backwards compatible partition, Content partitions of proper size?

Bug report: (rev. 5)

Program won't let me create a folder in a folder - I can insert content/000... but can't insert content folder then access that folder on the 360 drive, then insert 000... (Program doesn't crash, however my mouse freezes and will be restored when alt-tab in and out of program).

When I tried to copy Xexmenu I created the content/000.../C0... folder on my desktop and inserted that (drag and drop) - when I ran xexmenu (via CD) I could see that Xbox Commander made the file structure correctly on the HDD, however the file itself did not copy properly and showed only ~1mb (instead of ~30mb)

Keep up the good work! Look forward to hearing from you!

It is correcting the sector count in the HDDSS of the drive.

It just formats partition 3 at this time. It does not create the partitions. While I can do this I considered it to dangerous to do at this time. If enough people request this feature I will add it.

Found an error if the file added was greater than 1 cluster in size.

Keep up the good work! Look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks.

Thanks for the quick update!

Bug report (rev 6)

Updating HDDSS.bin on my hdd makes partition 3 display gibberish (files are still there) - fixed this by hexing in my original HDDSS. This also occurred when I said no to using calculated HDD size - but not when I use original HDDSS & say yes to using calculated HDD size.

+1 for formatting as the 360 does prior to xbr

What would be great, though possibly outside what you want to do is allow people to migrate their data from an old HDD (in my case 20gb) to new jtag hdd while retaining original partition structure. i.e. a one click feature that does this: http://www.xboxhacke...01222#msg101222

Thanks again

Thanks for the bug report.

Although what you reported is known. Some drives it is the other way. answering no to using the calculated size works and on those drives updating the HDDSS works. that is why the option is there.

What you could try is backup your HDD using the calculated size. Update the HDDSS to the new size. Then restore from your backup. There is a chance that this will not work if the calculated Size < 250gb and the actual size is > 250gb.

as for the "One Click Transfer" that is what it does. problem is that the allocation of space is different between drives with < 250gb and those with >250gb (the actual size is somewhere around 257gb).

I am working on this.

Still having issues writing to the drive with Rev 6.  Grabbing stuff from it works just fine.  Everything just hangs when dragging/dropping a file or folder to the drive.  So close to getting this application perfected, icepir8.  I like the addition of the status bar at the bottom, but that would be great if it were paired with a progress bar as well, if possible. Especially for transferring larger files/folders.  I'm sure it's on your long list of to-do's.

I've been testing with 10mb files and don't see a problem. I will try larger files and see if I can find the problem. maybe there is a bug after a certian size of file is reached.

Sorry - I should be more specific. When I tried update HDDSS.bin on rev 5 I did not have the gibberish problem (I am aware this was reported in an earlier post) - thing is the files are still displayed in Xport as their original names even with the updated HDDSS. You mentioned you don't have access to a larger HDD - anything you would like me to try doing?

I'm curious if the file transfer issue I'm having has to do with either a) running Windows 7, or cool.gif the SATA-USB enclosure that I have been using to connect my HDD to my laptop.  (Slow transfer or read speeds freezing the application?) Any file I try, large or small, hangs Commander.  There's also still that issue or dragging a file or folder into Commander, and the drag command never really "let's go", as someone stated earlier.  Maybe it's hanging the application because it's not actually initiating the transfer... I don't know, just throwing some ideas into the mix, I'm no programmer.

I use a cheap SATA_USB enclosure myself. I am using WinXP Pro sp3. You may want to try turning off the UAC temporarily for testing to see if that helps. Also I posted rev 7 with a progress bar. I have transfered 700mb+ files to my drive and it does take a bit. With the progress bar you can see that it is not frozen.

Does your drive have a HDDSS? If yes could you send it to me?
What hard drive make and model are you using?
Could you give me a dump of the Partition Header for partition 3? just the first 32 bytes will be enough.
What is the offset for the name.txt on your drive?

That should be enough to get me started.
