Use Iso2god 1.2.2 Under Wine In Ubuntu 9.10
« on: March 11, 2010, 01:26:00 PM »

Hi, I just made the move to the Linux world and I'm quite pleased! Unfortunately for us owner of jtagged xbox there isn't much softwares that runs natively on linux. Iso2GOD is one of those.

I use it because I like to have GOD container files on my Xbox as I can boot my games directly from the NXE dash without inserting the disc!

I tried to make it run under wine 1.1.40 with partial (but not enough...) success. The program launches fine but gives me alot of errors when I try to just click on a button...

I used winetricks to install .NET framework 2.0.

Does anyone here have a solution or a hint that would help me?

Thanks!

The painful option would be to run a Windows XP virtual machine using VirtualBox or such. I've not found an ISO2GOD app for Linux, but I would suggest Freestyle as a dash, paired with DashLaunch 0.2 to auto-run it on boot, using extracted ISOs. They're smaller, so they take up less room. With the auto-launch you don't have to launch the menu manually, and you don't have to swim through a small-size list of all of your games every time you want to do anything, it's a full screen menu.. Personal preference. You might also look into finding a way to get a newer version of Wine in Ubuntu - I know it's possible but I forget where/how...

Either do a virtual Windows install for ISO2GOD or extract the .iso files.

Freestyle Dash v1.10 Rc1 is getting pretty good, with manual fan speed control and support for game images and preview videos, but im unsure if the index app will run under linux.

FSindex runs ok.
for iso's i use xbox backup creator with wine

Yeah, for .iso extraction, there's a Linux tool you can use, called extract-xiso, and it doesn't have to be run under something that's just going to degrade performance and potentially have worse stability than a native app....but it's command-line. If you're using Linux though, you really shouldn't be afraid of that. That's like having a car and being afraid of the gas pedal.
